Introduction of Computer Aided Design (CAD)
CAD stands for Computer aided designing. It is a generic term of indicate how designs can be
created using computer and related hardware. CAD is a significant tool in design-oriented
industry as general engineering. Automobiles, construction and apparel. CAD is of recent origin
in carper industry. However, considerable strides have been made to address the design and
production related issues through effective use of computers. In today's Textile & Carpet industry
CAD is an integral and indispensable port. Cad allows us to design the product and visualize it
much before the actual production.
Computer designing came is use, hand in hand when electronically operated jacquards were
introduced. Electronic jacquards are operated by data punched floppy as per figured designs
prepared in computer. Graph designs developed in computer are transferred as data punch
format in floppy and it directly operates the needles of the fine pitch electronic jacquards like
Staubli, J. C. Bonas etc. In this system there is no handling of graph and punched cards.
Computerized designing as also being used to develop graph designs and it is transferred as Data
punch format floppy which in turn operates computerized punching machine to punch cards.
These cards are used in mechanical jacquards to weave figured fabrics. In this system handling
of graph sheet is fully eliminated.
Now-a-days computerized designing is used to develop graph designs to take graph printouts
using plotter or printer. Cards are punched from these graphs using mechanical punching
machines and then it is used in mechanical jacquards.
Present Status
Over a certain period depending on situation, we embark on new adventures, change naturally
occurs in our lives, Colour trends also occur naturally. Colours of present and future will be
inspired by fashion, moved by technology and driven by emotion.
Fashion
The influence that fashion will have upon the palette is undeniable. Designers seek out unique
styles and incorporate current philosophies in their designs to create a statement and set them
apart.
Technology
Enhanced technology will provide us with the ability to achieve many of the design goals as we
desire. Many advancement have been made in achieving surface design, with controlled tone and
hue. Depending on the atmosphere to heal or to creatively decorate or to alter a space technology
is at its best.
Culture
Cultural fashion will impact us on all levels from: fashion, food, music and inevitably Colour. Latin
influences create the design for coppery browns and shades of bronze. Asian theme gives rise to
exotic colors. Mediterranean provides cool, watery blues.
Quality
Disposable attitude will not be tolerated in the world of quality. Integrity and Longevity are the
key words in quality also elegance, luxury, sophistication and glamour will be interpreted in the
new ways.
The computer industry has helped designers create almost anything they can think of. With
design software, designers are able to create Designs which was not possible many years ago
when designers had to do everything by hand. Although these design applications may seem
difficult to use for nonprofessionals, there are easy to use computer design tools that function
and create the same results as the applications professional designers use.
Computer Aided Design - CAD or Computer Aided Design enables designing objects through
design software. Creating easier done through the use of computer aided design software.
Easy to Design on the computer.
      Working time reduced drastically.
Enables variations in your designing in seconds and matching of colors at a click of a
       button.
      Designing your own textile patterns.
Intricacy in patter & texture designing.
Create original designs and convert them into desired platform.
Retouch, manipulate and enhance textures, patterns & designs.
The ability to trace figures or designs on to screen for further enhancement.
A variety of realistic outputs to show your customer, like laser outputs slide matrix
recorder, video tapes, and inkjet printouts in 16.7 million colors etc.
Designing is easy with the use of tools like Mouse Digitizer, Scanner etc.
Large Size graph designs can easily be prepared.
Applying weave marks for different parts of the figure takes no time.
Alterations and changes of any required in the shapes or weave marks on different parts
of a design can be made very easily and effectively.
Savings of the designs and taking many printouts of the design is possible.
Computer Designing eliminates graph sheets in computer integrated Punching.
Computer designing eliminates the use of graph sheets and punched cards in case of
       electronic jacquard weaving.
CAD is very useful for Export Fabric manufacturers in creating new designs to meet the
global challenges. Designing of stripe patterns, check patterns, dobby designs, jacquard
designs etc. are very easy and it takes no time to get pattern approval.
By using multiple options, the effect look of the design in all over fabrics can be seen on
the screen and it is possible to take the printouts.
Alteration and changes if required in shapes or weave can be easily done.
CAD simulates manual process but saves a lot of time while contributing to higher
       effectively and productivity.
Simulations in real sizes are possible using required quality.
There are less chances of error in pattern formation.
Fabric simulations in real size is possible by using required reed count and picks per inch,
count of warp and well, material etc. to have correct idea about the appearance of the
       fabric after weaving.
Appearance of design on any object can be seen before by graph option.
Design-printout:
Design as it is can be printed using print options for showcasing purpose. The fit to view option
allows to put the whole design within available paper size. Printouts of various color
combinations can be taken .print color key option allows to print color chips at bottom of design
Graph printout:
Graph printouts can be taken following industry standards like numbering of graph groups in
horizontal and vertical direction, page numbering, number of boxes per group, size of each group.
Once designing is over, we have to create a copy of design and save it with different name. Now
this new image is the print file. This is because we will take graph printout after replacing ground
color with color marks we can print color chips at bottom for tying wool and also percentage of
each color used.
There is no restriction with size of printer we are using. If size of printer is small, no. Of printouts
will be more and we'll get required graph in series of papers which we'll have to paste. A plotter
can also be used for the same purpose.
Colour/Wool consumption report
After designing the carpet we can take out wool consumption report printout. This report shows:
   1. Number of colors used in design
   2. Color percentage
   3. Quantity of wool required for weaving.
This feature allows to reduce wool wastage in carpet industry and also helps in inventory
management.

In manual graph making, first the motif is
drawn manually or the motif can also be
drawn manually in the required size.
                                                 drawn directly in the computer.
The motif is divided vertically and The motif is scanned by giving required
