I N T R O D U C T I O N
In the history of humankind's journeytoward
selfknowledge, there is perhaps nomore natural
pairing than weed and tarot. For thousands of years,
cannabis has beenused in myriad forms to encourage
seekingexpansion, clarity, healing, and peace. Andfor
hundreds of years, tarot cards havedone the same,
providing guidance, framework, and interpretation for
examining al!of life's mysteries, from the mundane
to the exotic.

Maybe no single word better illuminatesthe

intersection of these two pursuits orpassions than
seeking-although it's worthnoting that both pot and
tarot first becamepopularized for other purposes. In
600oBCE China, hemp seeds were being usedfor food
before being developed for hempclothing. Eventually,
people partook of theplant itself for medicinal
purposes.

Tarot cards likely originated in themid-ffteenth

century in ltaly as a mereentertaining card game. In
fact, not untilthe nineteenth century's interest in
spirituaand occult practices did the tarot deck
reallycatch on as we use it now: a deck of cards

4
that uses symbols to refect our
circumstances and provide us with insight
andguidance.

Naturally, then, as weed and

weedculture have evolved to far surpass
anyoutdated imagery of the hapless
stonedhippie, it only makes sense that
tarot andpot are soul mates of a sort,
both used attimes for entertainment and
at times forserious self-seeking.

There are, of course, as many

differenttypes of pot users as there are,
well, pot. This deck is good for everyone
, whetherit is the occasional toker who
seeks alittle peace of mind and a glimpse
into thefuture or the more dedicated,
everydayuser, (This deck can be enjoyed,
of course, without a pot pairing, but
again, marryingthe two pursuits might
just make sense andenrich both
experiences.)

T H E C A R D S
Each deck of tarot cards is divided into
twomain groups, or arcana, from the Latin
arcanum, meaning "secret." The Major
Arcanaconsists of 22 cards and represents
life'sbig-picture issues, overarching
themes, andkey refections. The Minor
Arcana consists

5
of 56 cards that represent daily
challengesend the nuances within the bigger
ideas pu!forth by the Major Arcana.

The Minor Arcana consists of four suitseach

representing a different natural elemenand
its corresponding infuence on day-today
life, In this deck, those suits are
markedwith the following symbols:

The Suit of Joints, traditionallyWands,

represents fire and is corcerned with
passion,inspirationenergy, and spirituality
.

The Suit of Bongs, traditionallyCups,

represents water andreflects matters to do
with relationships, feelings, and
creativity

The Suit of Pipes, traditionallySwords,

represents air and isconcerned with
thinking, intellectaction, and change.

The Suit of Buds, traditionallyPentacles,

represents earth and is concerned with
financial matters material possessions,
and career issues, In this deck, Pentacles
are represented by all forms of
themarijuana plant. 6

Prepping for the Reading
First and most important, you'll wantto
get in the right mindset for
openlyexploring the wisdom of the cards.
lf thatlooks like indulging in a little
puff (or five)before beginning, do what
makes you feelmost comfortable. Next, you
should go intothe reading with a
question or focus heldconfidently in mind
before you begin.(lfyou're reading for
someone else, they'recalled the querent
and they should be theone with a question
/focus in mind.) Shufethe deck and then
cut it with your left handand choose a
spread for your reading.

Spreads and Layouts

There are as many ways to lay out

tarotcards as there are strains at your
dispensary.Some of the spreads are
simple, someextremely complex, Some are
aimed atproviding an overall perspective
or insightinto problems or
circumstances in thequerent's past,
present, or future, and somecan answer
specific questions or problems.
7
On the following pages are seven of
themost common layouts and guidance on
howto read them. You may choose to try
thesespreads and research even more, or
youmay quickly come to find the right
spreadfor the right level of, well,
enlightenmentyou're feeling at any given
time.

For most spreads, cards are laid

outfacedown and then turned over to
beread, and the order of both is
important.Refer to the illustrations for
each spread tounderstand the layout and
reading orderof the more complicated
spreads.Use theguides to the cards in
this booklet to helpyou interpret the
messages.

Remember, it takes time to learn howto

interpret the cards and
familiarizeyourself with the meanings af
each. Don'tbe surprised if what you see
doesn't makesense right away, lt may
take a while for themeaning to become
clear, but trust yourinstincts. The best
path may not always bestraightforward.

layout. After shufing and cut.ting the deck with your

the same order, left to right. They reveal:

work.

THE TREE OF LIFE

( The Flower )
In this spread, the cards are laid out on
the shape of the tree, with a circle of
cards surrounding the trunk. This layout is
often concerned with the querent's
spiritual journey or purpose in the

out the cards as shown in the illustration,
from 1 to 10.

T H E R E A D I N G
While the previous descriptions show
whata given card means within a
specific spreadeach card also carries
its own meaning. With any spread, the
aim is to interpret themeaning of the
individual cards in relationto the
topic or question brought by thequerent
, as well as their relationship toother
cards in the spread.
The reading is a journey, the telling
of astory. The individual elements are
crucial, but so is the big picture. Here
are a fewthings to bear in mind as you
start reading:

. As you turn each card over, take

amoment to let it sit with you. There'
sno need to rush toward interpretation.
See how it makes you feel.
. Pay attention to your instincts and
thefrst thing to strike you upon
seeingthe card, Then be willing to look
a littlefurther beyond the surface.
. Try to assess the card from both
anobjective point of view (its
generalmeaning)and a subjective one (how

19
it relates specifically to the querent'
squestion/topic).

. Don't be too literal-many cards aresymbolic

. Death does not mean actualdeath. The Fool
does not reflect thequerent's intellect.

. Pay attention to both the small detailsand

the more obvious elements of eachcard to
find greater meaning or nuance

. Bear in mind that the meaning ofthe cards

may not make sense in theimmediate moment.
lt may take timefor things to fall into
place and meaningto become clear, even long
after thereading.

Now. Sit back, get in the right headspace

,and focus on being open to new possi-
bilities and ideas, You're no stranger
toseeking new perspectives; the cards
(andpot) can be very powerful guides on
yourjourney.

20
21
THE FOOL

Upright: Don't be, well, fooled. This

cardis not an admonition of any sort.
Rather, the Fool/Jester is all of us as
we set out-innocents braving the
unknown, taking acalculated risk on a
new beginning, a leapof faith, buying
your frst baggy, if you will. There is
plenty of reason for optimism
andpromise.

Reversed: Caution rules the

reversedmessage of the Fool. Might he
be rushinginto things a tad hastily-
recklessly, even-asevidenced by the
breadcrumb trail of budhe's leaving
behind? Perhaps. Look, as theold adage
goes, before you leap.

22
23
T H E M A G I C I A N
Upright: Spread before the Magician arethe
spoils of each tarot suit-Buds, BongsPipes,
and Joints-each representing thefour
elements, all of which the Magicianwill
harness to create that elusive fifthelement
, the breath of gods. That's a signfor you
to take action too. Creativity
andtransformation are key here. Decisions
tobe made? Commit to your passions. Timeto
turn insight and self-knowledge intoaction?
Smokers and tokers can be moversand
shakers, as we already know.

Reversed: Who's harshing the vibe in here!

lt could be the Magician, who turns
impishupside down. Something in your life
isn'twhat it appears-is there a manipulator
inyour midst? Or is it taking the form of
acreativity block you just can't move past?
syour communication cloudy? Feeling stuck!
hegardless of orientation, action is
whatthe Magician is calling for,

24
25
THE HIGH PRIESTESS

Upright: High, indeed. The

Priestess cardrepresents the
divine feminine, a
spiritualteacher who is aligned
with the naturalbalance of the
universe. She brings giftsof
wisdom, intuition, and knowledge.
Sheis the perfect guide for your
journey ofself-seeking and inner
knowledge. Keepsecrets close and
follow the guidance ofyour spirits
and intuition.

Reversed: The High Priestess is

using herwomanly wisdom to warn
that you mightbe about to take a
wrong turn and listento
questionable advice rather than
yourown intuition, She may also be
telling youit's time to let a long-
held secret out ofthe bag.

26
27
THE EMPRESS
Upright: Here, the Empress is
representedby the indica bud, a perfect
fit for herheralding of creativity and
abundance, awarm and maternal sense of
emotionalsecurity. The Empress is here
to give youwhat you need creatively
and materiallyand she especially
represents peace onthe home front. Feel
her warm smokeenvelop you.

Reversed: Not surprisingly, the

Empressreversed points to trouble on the
homefront or in the financial arena. lf
you haven'tbeen focusing on these
things, now's thetime to take a clear-
eyed look and see whatneeds tending to.

28
29
THE EMPEROR
Upright: Sativa bud represents the Emperorin
this deck, what with its associations
withpower, action, and virility. We're
talkingmaturity and wisdom, rulership and
ambition. He's a welcome sign that things are
lookingup, and he wants you to be fully
present toexperience it.

Reversed: Naturally, those qualities

turnedon their heads can wreak havoc. Are
youexerting too much control over people,
places, and things that aren't yours to
manage? Bogarting things you oughtn't? Don'
tlet ego run the show.

30
31
THE HIEROPHANT

Upright: While a more traditional

readingmight focus on religious orthodoxy,
thepot smoker's takeaway may be more
aboutrecognizing the drive for a higher path
orpurpose. We're talking self-realization
andspiritual development. The Hierophant
represents institutions and traditional
values.

Reversed: The Hierophant warns of

poorleadership, incompetence, or egotism
inyour path. Seek your own course. Followyour
own spirit. Be you.

32
33
THE LOVERS
Upright: We seek connection in our
pursuitsand the appearance of the Lovers
suggestswe are coming into true harmony
withanother being.(What's more
harmoniousthan bud being ground into
beautifulfower?) This card represents
relationships,connection, and a new
opportunity. As youhave opened yourself up
to new peopleand experiences, take stock
and make surethat it's being reciprocated.

Reversed: The Lovers card takes on a

fittingly inverse meeting when upside
down. A relationship may be questioned,
or there maybe obfuscation and dishonesty
_the exactopposite of the clarity you're
seeking

34
35
THE CHARIOT
Upright: Which way pointeth your
CharionThis card heralds action and
momentumand was made for you, the
truth seeker.Believe in yourself.
Exercise your determination, willpower
, and focus. This is not atime to
smoke a bowl and sit by passivelyYou
say you want to expand your horizons.
Here's your chance.

Reversed: The Chariot has a tendency

toget in its own way. Check the egos
aroundyou, especially your own. Are
you really letting self-will run riot?
lt leads only to delaysand
disruptions on the road.

36
37
S T R E N G T H
Upright: Not for the faint of heart,
muchlike the edible on its face, the
Strength cardis about overcoming obstacles
and endur.ance.lt's also about trusting and
knowingyourself, being your own best guide
. Standfrm. Hold your ground with courage
anddetermination.

Reversed: No risk, no reward. Your verylove

of weed speaks to your openness, sowhy are
you avoiding risk and confict whenit's the
only path to triumph? Don't letoutside
voices drown out your own. Don'tlet fear
hold you hostage. Reversed doesntmean
weakness; it just means you're notlistening
to your own inner wisdom.

38
39
THE HERMIT
Upright: The Hermit card symbolizes
timefor self-examination, self-
refection, self.reliance, and even self
-healing. A little metime, perhaps,
just you and your one-hitter.Enjoy the
benefits of purposeful solitude.It's a
state of mind. Connect with yourinner
wisdom.

Reversed: Solitude feels good when it

isfruitful and supportive. Reversed,
the Hermit card suggests you may be
feeling aloneor unsupported, Take
comfort in the card'supright urgings
and spend a little one-onone time with
yourself.

40
41
WHEEL OF FORTUNE
Upright: Nothing but options and possibilities
as far as the eye can see! You mayexperience
unexpected encounters. Beopen to what the
spiritual and psychicworld may put in your path
. You neverknow what strain will be right for
your trip.

Reversed: Life has, as you know all toowell,

its highs and its lows. Upside down, the Wheel
card doesn't necessarily bringbad news. Rather,
it may just acknowledge aperiod of difficulty
and could even symbolizecoming to a place of
meaningful closure.Perseverance is the right
response,

42
43
J U S T I C E
Upright: lf only every card were as
straighforward as the Justice card, which
symbolizetruth, balance, and fairness and
suggests apositive outcome. This is the sweet
spot;like a perfect bake, it's a very groovy
placeto be. Enjoy.

Reversed: And ... just like that, a reversed

Justice card can mean that all manner of
things-internal and external_feel out of
balance. As long as you're honest with your
self and those around you, you've earned the
right to trust your sense of fairness. But
be warned: You can't outrun karma. lf your
side of the street's messy, best to own upto
it, stick around, and tidy up.

44
45
THE HANGED MAN
Upright: The Hanged Man-or, in this case,a
hanging weed plant-means transfor-mation,
possibility, and patience. As onething
transitions to another, life can feel alittle
stagnant. But this time is important. The
plant is curing, drying. Sacrifce andpatience
now mean rewards down the line

Reversed: The Hanged Man card remindsus of

the perils of hanging on to somethingtoo
tightly-whether it be our past,
ourexpectations, or potential outcomes.
Ashift of perspective may be needed to
getunstuck.

46
47
D E A T H
Upright: Don't panic. Death is not
literalhere. Rather, this card is about
endings andbeginnings. As that sweet bud
becomesash, so does the Death card
symbolizetransformation. Take this
chance to exhaledeeply and release that
which is not serv-ing you any longer.
When the smoke clearsyou will see how
this has been a positivechange that
brought you closer to the truth

Reversed: In its upside-down

presentation,the Death card still means
change, but itcan feel unsettling to
some. The messagehere is that there is
no turning back time:What is, is. This
is not necessarily a badthing. Focus on
the spiritual transformationthat results
.

48
49
TEMPERANCE
Upright: Waiting for 4:20 can be tough,
buttiming is, as they say, everything-
especiallywhen it comes to matters of
harmony,peace, understanding, and
balance.(And,yes, moderation.) Trust the
timing of theuniverse and your own
progress. This couldbe the beginning of
a spiritual journey.

Reversed: The reversed reading of

theTemperance card is, then, a lack of
balance.Don't let the past drag you down
. Try tofocus on your present needs and
wants,but don't overindulge, There is
such a thingas too much of a good thing,
as anyonewho's gone from blitzed to
bouldered cantell you, Now is the time
to listen to yourspirit guides.

50
51
THE DEVIL
Upright: Guard your eyes. The Devil isturning a
bright light on situations rifewith temptation,
negativity, destruction,obsession, and greed.
That might sound likea bad trip, but this card
encourages you tosee things as they are, if you'
ll pardon therather rude intrusion. lt's time to
get backto inhaling some righteous perspective
andremembering your true spiritual nature.

Reversed: Unlike most cards, the Devilgains hope

upon reversal, Now is the timeto seek light and
joy, to find solutions andmake positive moves.
Healing is the wordof the day, and you're
beginning to seewhat that requires of you.

52
53
THE TOWER
Upright: lt's not hard to see, with a
quickglance at the Tower card, that things
havegone awry. Are we talking chaos?
Destruction? Maybe just a bruised ego or a
sense of confusion? Heavy stuff, no doubt,
but the good news is that this necessary
destructionprecedes fruitful reconstruction.
There isreal freedom and growth in the Tower
'
smessage of the release that finally
comeswhen you're ready to stop fighting,
moveon, and
rebuild.

Reversed: The Tower card suggests it's the

ideal time to exhale and let go of respon.
sibility that wasn't yours in the first
place.outcomes that cannot be changed, or
ideas that never bore fruit, lt's time for
stocktakingand surrender.

54
55
THE STAR
Upright: There's nothing worse than havingno
lighter when you need one, and the Starcard
symbolizes that sense of relief, opti-mism,
and positive change when you fndthe light. The
path ahead offers illuminationwhere there has
been struggle. Spiritualand emotional seeking
is rewarded with thefow of true growth and
creativity. lt's yourtime to shine brightly.
Ohm. You and theuniverse are one.

Reversed: Stars (like fames) can also

bemesmerizing and distracting, and in
itsreversed presentation, the Star card
mightoffer up a warning: Don't be fooled by
thesurface promise of shiny, pretty things.
Sta)humble and let the universe take the lead.

56
57
THE MOON
Upright: The Moon sure looks mellowtonight
, and with its reassuring visage, thiscard
reminds us to trust our intuition:
lfsomething seems off, there's probably
goodreason for it. lt also offers the
reminder tomine our dreams for what our
subconsciousalready knows too well. Let
your sensestake center stage.

Reversed: A reversed Moon card askswhether

you are being honest with yourselabout
your needs and desires. lf you'refeeling
stuck, it's time to do something
differently, so don't be afraid to look
closelyat old patterns.

58
59
THE SUN
Upright: There is no more positive,
optimistic card in the tarot deck than the
Sun, which beatifcally shines its promise
of warmthand light across all who survey
it. lf it's goodvibes you've been seeking,
this is a signyou're on the right path.
Focus on relation-ships and activities
that bring you joy.

Reversed: Even reversed, the Sun card

continues to shine, illuminating the
notion that any negativity or sadness
you're experiencing may be the result of a
lopsided perspective, Breathe deeply,
Hold it. Feelyour consciousness shift.

60
61
JUDGEMENT
Upright: The Judgement card acknowledges
that change is on the horizon but that,
first, the past must be dealt with once
andfor all. Upright, this card indicates a
clear conscience. You don't have anything
to fearfrom karma. You're tuned in,
turned on, anddoing it right.

Reversed: The Judgement card suggeststhat

not only are you holding on to the pastbut
also that it isn't serving you and karma
has you stuck in the learn-and-grow cycle
you seem to be resisting. Acceptance ofthe
past is key to peace in the present and
hope going forward.

62
63
THE WORLD
Upright: What symbolizes wholeness and
completion more fully, more positively, than the
ongoing circle and cycle of theWorld? Joy and
happiness are the rewardsfor brave self-seeking
. (A few deep inhalesdon't hurt, either.)
Positive closure is on thehorizon for something
important, and thewind carries for you a sense
of your full seland all you seek to attain.

Reversed: The World card is a bit of a dangling

carrot-you can see what the universeholds for you,
but you're not quite sure howto get there, This
is where your faith in thejourney comes in, More
will, as they say, berevealed.

64
65
66
SUIT OF BONGS
The Suit of Bongs, represented in tradi.
tional tarot decks as Cups, is, naturally
,associated with the element of water. lt
isthe realm of emotions, creativity,
love, and connections. Like love and
relationships,water can be gentle and
lapping like a goodhigh, or jarring and
overpowering like bongwater that's seen a
few too many hits.

67
Ace of Bongs
Upright: Your
bongrunneth over.
Feelingall those new
feelings?The Ace of
Bongs sym-bolizes
fertility, whichhere
can mean rich soiland
new beginnings,
literally or
fguratively.Could be
some very
productive bud, a new baby, a project, or
arelationship.

Reversed: lt's possible you're grapplingwith

fertility issues in some area of your life.Is
it literal or about creative block? Whenthe
bong is blocked, nothing good happens.Potential
new projects and relationshipsdon't look so
promising.

68
Two of Bongs
Upright: Teamwork!
Noone's bogarting
anythinghere. Strong,
equitablepartnerships
come frombalanced,
confdentpartners, in
love, creativ-ity, and
work. Sharing
iscaring. Enjoy the
gifts oftrue unity.

Reversed: The Two of Bongs suggeststhat a

relationship's power dynamics havefallen out
of balance, which can lead toseparation or
rejection, lf no red fags standout immediately
, keep in touch with yourintuition and sixth
sense, There may bethings you don't know.

69
Three of Bongs
Upright: The Threeof
Bongs offers upthe joys
of comingtogether as
friends,as community, in
realharmony.
Happinesscould take the
formof a big celebration
ora quiet reconnection.
This card is your sign to
prioritize qualitytime
with loved ones, maybe
passing thatbong around.

Reversed: As is true with many

reversedpresentations, the Three of Bongs rep.
resents imbalance, Relationships don'tachieve
equilibrium on their own-everyonehas to put in
the time. Check your friendand support groups to
make sure pettyfactors like gossip aren't
undermining everyone's harmony.

70
Four of Bongs
Upright: Focusingon life's
empty bongsmay have you
feelingmelancholy and a
bitdiscontented.(plusyou're
missing out onthe abundant
