SATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Somesh Pradeep Pillai, an Indian student hereby furnishing my statement of purpose
for a student visa application to Canada. My academic and professional backgrounds along
with the reasons for selecting the course and future plans post completion of my studies are
detailed in the document.
Family Details and Financial Viability
I live in a nuclear family with my mother, Mrs. Nayana Pradeep Pillai, a self-employed civil
engineer, and my father, Mr. Pradeep Somashekharan Pillai, service employee at Torrent
Pharmaceuticals. My father has been the main driver of my motivation since I was young,
pushing me to satisfy my academic curiosity. I learned the value of being on time and having
a regular schedule from my mother.
My family’s total income for the previous fiscal year was approximately INR 16,00,000/-
(approx. equal to 26,000 CAD). My father will be in charge of handling all of my financial
requirements while I am away, including travel, lodging, and other unanticipated costs. Since
then, I’ve completed a GIC Application for $10,000 CAD to pay for my daily costs. I also paid
the first-year tuition for my academic degree, which came to CAD$ 23,955. All of this data
implies that I have sufficient funds to cover both the cost of my courses and my stay in
Canada.
Educational Accomplishments
With 8 CGPA from the Central Board of Secondary Education, I received my secondary
school certificate in 2017. I was a naturally curious learner who valued applied learning
above in-depth theory. In 2019, I completed my high school with a particular overall
percentage of 70.4 %. I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology because it
was something that induced a sense of excitement in me. In 2022, I graduated with a
Bachelor’s degree from LJ Institute of Applied Science with a 7.19 CGPA. Growing and
learning have been ongoing processes throughout my academic career. My initial
coursework was geared toward giving me a thorough theoretical understanding of my topic
in order to introduce me to the enormous work that has previously been accomplished in it
and to get me ready for future contributions that will be entirely original. Also, I have
attended a personality development course offered by Hiren Vakil, reputed corporate trainer
and management consultant.
Linguistic Prowess
I took the IELTS exam in December 2021 after rigorous preparation. With bands of 8 in
Listening, 8 in reading, 6.5 in writing, and 7.0 in speaking, I earned an outstanding overall
score of 7.5 bands.
Why Master of Business Administration?
Master of Business Administration is a course designed specifically for the future leaders
and heads in the corporate world who wish to lead their team to success. As mentioned
earlier I have completed my Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology with lots of laboratory
experience and I am confident in my practical skills. As it stands right now, I want to continue
my studies in a direction which teaches me the managerial skills that I will require to become
more than just a laboratory technician. An MBA course was the obvious choice. After
completion of my MBA course I am confident that I would have acquired skills such as
people management, public relations, market strategies, etc. which will enable me to boost
my profile from being mere laboratory technician to project coordinator or assistant project
manager which would help me go up the corporate hierarchy. The MBA program will help
me chisel my foundational knowledge in the business administration domain.
During the course period I would be learning about how to-
1. Respond strategically to challenges and opportunities which enables me to learn about
decision making which is essential when working in a managerial post.
2. Assess ethical implications of business activities, which would help me make decisions
which would be widely acceptable and thus maintain a good reputation in the market.
3. Collaborate with diverse groups of people allowing myself to explore a spectrum of
perceptions strengthening my own perception.
4. Lead teams through successful completion of projects, which is the ultimate goal for me.
Moreover, UCW is offering a variety of elective courses which will help me grow my
knowledge and skill towards a specific subject. The elective subjects include:
a. Leadership - This elective will allow students to learn the duties and responsibilities of a
leader and help develop the necessary qualities and abilities required to be a successful

business and the skills required for making right decisions for the betterment of the company
and the employee can be learned with this course.
d. Entrepreneurship - This course is designed for people who want to learn the strengths that
one must have to become an entrepreneur. The skills range from fund management to
salesmanship.
e. Business Analytics - How to make reports, how to read and understand market reports,
what changes can be made… and so on are the skills that one will learn on completion of
this course.
f. Marketing - Everything business depends on how it was marketed and if the marketing
was on point the chances of increase in business can be as much as 1000%. Marketing
strategies and market understanding is what this course offers.
g. Financial Management - Managing funds is the climax to any business. How to… when to.
how much… funds to be utilized is what this course is all about.
h. Digital Marketing - In the world of digitalization, digital marketing is what decides how a
company’s new product/service’s response is going to be and the special set of skills
required for marketing to targeted audiences over the world is what this course has to offer.
i. Project Management - A small bunch of people with the same goal of achieving the top
quality for product/service needs a head that has the knowledge and skills to be able to
manage the people under him and still be able to complete his own tasks. This is where this
course excels at and provides the student with a spectrum of knowledge and experience
required to be able to do so.
Why University Canada West?
After deciding on the course of my choice I started looking for universities in Canada that
offered MBA and considering a lot of factors I landed on UCW. The factor included:
1. Courses Structure- The course structure offered by UCW is very organized and enables
the students to go through every course with optimum difficulty so as to gain experience in
the respective course. Also, UCW offers 10 different elective subjects that can be opted by
the student to have knowledge and skills in specialized fields.
2. Location- UCW is situated in Vancouver, British Columbia which has a very similar climate
to India and it would be much easier for me to acclimatize and adjust to the lifestyle.
Moreover, Vancouver is a city known for its work-life balance among people which makes it
one of the most habitable cities and the environment in the city is a cherry on top.
3. Employment Rate- With one of the highest employment rates of 96% UCW has a lot of
successful alumni working around the world. UCW has collaborations with companies like
Amazon, Facebook, Shopify, etc. which enables their students to get exposure to different
types of companies and adds relevant digital components to the course.
4. Tuition Fees - Compared to any other universities offering MBA, UCW has the most
affordable fee structure adding to which I was given a scholarship which eases the financial
burden on my family as well.
5. The QS Stars Higher Education Rating is one of the most recognized university rating
systems. Canada has five universities with five-star ratings, and UCW is one of them, which
certifies it to be a top class university to study in.
It is indeed true that similar study options are available in India, but that similar quality and
standards of education are also available is largely disputable
