Jungle fowl is a bird in a pheasant family. It is an Asian bird. Male bird have fleshy combs and high arched
tails they have shiny red, green and black plumage. The red jungle fowl is the ancestor of the chicken.
The hen us rusty brown with speckled neck and a minimal comb. It lays 2 to 4 eggs in a nest either on a
forest floor in steep hill country or in the abandoned nest of other birds and squirrels. Her eggs are highly
variable in colour but generally are cream with a yellow or pink tint. The male Sri Lankan jungle fowl plays
an active role in nest protection and rearing chicks.
Jungle fowl is commonly found in kithugala, yala and sinharaja. they eat worms, insects, seeds and plants.
It is the national bird of Sri Lanka.
