Welcome & About the Course

Welcome! I’m so glad that you’re trusting me to help you organize your life and get stuff done
with Todoist. Let’s go over a few practicalities.

A couple of tips
Many lessons come with to-dos. When there are to-dos, please complete them before moving on
to the next lesson.

Each lesson comes with English captions. To turn them on, click the CC button on the video
player. And each lesson also comes with a transcript of the video. The transcript is at the bottom
of each lesson.

Below the video transcript, you’ll find the comments section for each lesson. If you have a
question or would like to share something, just leave a comment there and I’ll get back to you.
Or, if you have a private question, you can email me at peter@peterakkies.net. Asking your
question in the comments is ideal, though, so others can benefit from my answer too!

The course comes with a Todoist cheat sheet. You can use it as a reference while you’re using
the app. You might not yet understand everything that’s on there, but by the end of the course
you will. Find the cheat sheet in the next lesson.

Quick note: giving me feedback

Just wanted to share something briefly—this course is still pretty new. I want it to help you
massively. So I did my best to make the course complete yet efficient. If you feel that anything is
missing, or you need more help on a certain topic, please let me know. Just leave a comment or
email me. Perhaps I can even create a new lesson on that topic. Thank you!

To-Dos
Right now, let’s make Todoist really easy for you to get to, whatever you’re doing. If you haven’t
already:

1. Sign up for the premium edition of Todoist.

2. Install Todoist on all of your devices.
3. Put the Todoist app on the first screen of your phone. Consider setting up a Todoist
widget on your lock screen.

Once you’ve done that, let’s move on to the next lesson.

Video Transcript
Hello! And welcome to the course. My name is Peter. I'm your instructor, but you probably knew
that already.
Anyway, it's really nice to have you. Thank you for trusting me to teach you about Todoist, and
not just about Todoist, but we'll get there in a second.

Just, what are we gonna do in this lesson? I want to teach you how to use Todoist but also how to
build a workflow around Todoist, how to integrate Todoist into your daily life, okay?

So, I'm gonna tell you a little bit about the structure of this course, a little bit more about that
goal as well, and then I'll give you some to-dos.

Now, how to get the most out of this course is go through the course from beginning to end. So,
I've designed the course so that, as we're going through it together, we are going to build a
Todoist system that's gonna make you more productive, more organized, and feel less
overwhelmed.

So we're gonna build it from scratch. Now, it's possible that you've been using Todoist for some
time already. If that's the case, then probably, as the course progresses, you're gonna find more
and more new stuff.

Early on, there may be less new stuff for you, but I still encourage you to at least skim through,
peruse the first modules of the course if that's the case for you, okay?

And so we're gonna make our setup more and more advanced as we progress through the course.
Most lessons are going to have something for you to do, a couple of to-dos. You can consider it
the course homework if you would like.

And so what I'd like you to do is read the text at the top of a lesson, if there is any. Then watch
the video. Then complete the associated to-dos with that lesson. It'll say to-dos, and, you know,
there'll be some stuff, and then move on to the next lesson, okay?

So just do things lesson by lesson, and then together we'll build up this system. That way you're
also not watching a whole lot of, you know, video of me explaining stuff and then trying to
remember everything. So we're gonna do it as we go.

Good to know. You need the Todoist premium version, okay? So if you've been using the free
basic version of Todoist, you can do some of the stuff that we're doing in this course. Actually,
you can probably do a lot of this stuff. But, to really get the most out of it, you are going to want
to subscribe to the premium edition.

So that's one of your to-dos actually already for this lesson. Another good thing to know is I'm
gonna do a lot of demonstrating on Todoist on the Mac, just 'cause I have a Mac, but this applies
to Todoist on any platform.

One of the great things about Todoist, is it is available on all platforms, even on the Web, but I'll
be demonstrating most of the time on the Mac just 'cause that's easiest for me. It should be
basically the same wherever you're using Todoist though.
There are some times when there are some features that are available in the mobile app, and
when that's the case, when something is available in the mobile app, but not on Todoist, on
desktop, for example, I'll show you that. And one example we're gonna get to that at some point
is setting location-based reminders. That's something that you'll want to do on mobile, and so
there may be some lessons that I'll demonstrate on my phone.

That's about it. What I'd like you to do now is do those to-dos that are listed underneath this
lesson, and that basically consists of installing Todoist on all of your devices, 'cause we wanna
make sure that Todoist is really easy for you to get to. Hey, if you're not gonna use it, you're not
gonna get any of the benefits, right?

So, do that, and just wanna say, I'm really excited that you're here. Again, really excited and
grateful that you're trusting me. We're gonna teach you, not just how to get the most out of
Todoist, but also, more generally, how to improve your life by being more productive, more
organized, and less overwhelmed.

So, go ahead and do those to-dos now. Then you can move on to the next lesson, and we'll get
started for real.
