○ PLEASE PUT EVERYONE’S NAME ON THE PAPER
○ This will be collected for attendance
1) What are the shared interests of the group/community?
2) How do they practice the/their culture? (Ex. Do they have gatherings? Do
they hold discussions? Participate in certain activities? Etc.)
3) Share an object that is important to the culture and explain why it is
important? What does the object signify/mean to them?
4) What forms of cultural capital and social capital are beneficial in the
culture?
5) How might the different theoretical perspectives (Conflict, Symbolic,
Functionalism, Colonial, Feminist) talk about the dynamics in the culture?

Agents of Socialization Anticipatory Socialization

this socialization lead men into patriarchal norms?
6) Which theoretical perspective are the researchers using for this study? Explain how
they are applying it

The assignment: Develop your sociological imagination by reflecting on your
own life and applying sociological concepts/theory to your own life related to:
Family, education, or work.
For this activity:

● No electronics: supposed no phones, laptops, ipads, phones etc., no chatgpt
or other generative AI.
○ This is supposed to be about your life
● This is a Brainstorming activity and therefore does NOT need to be perfect to
complete
● This assignment will be collected as part of participation
● Please ask questions if you are confused on anything!
Assignment Prep- Brainstorming
With the person next to you:
● Brainstorm ideas on how you can use sociological concepts and/or theories that we have
learned to analyze your own life. What concepts or theories interest you? How could you
use these?
● Which three sociological concepts can you apply to reflect on a circumstance or event
from your life related to one of the following: family, education, or work? How? Why
these three?
● Example of topics to write about: Holidays, family income level and its impact, family
immigration status, work-school balance, school athletics/or subjects, a social pressure
you felt, etc.
