ABSTRACT

An electrical switchyard is an assemblage of electrical components including bus bars,

breakers, transformers, relays CT’s, CVT’s, Lightning arrestors etc., The transmission of
electrical power takes place through the bus bars. We can say, the bus bars are junction points
capable of carrying huge power. These components are connected in a definite sequence such
that a circuit can be switched off during the normal operation by manual command and also
automatically during abnormal condition such as short circuit / earth fault.
We have studied about the Thermal Power plant operation cycles like Feed water
cycle, Condensate cycle, Steam cycle etc.,
We also succeeded in presenting briefly about STUDY OF 400KV SWITCHYARD
in KTPS VI stage, which consists of two tie-line feeders through which we can send or
receive power and two outgoing feeders through which we can transmit power to the different
stations.

. It gives details of various electrical equipments employed in the functioning of the

400 kV switch yard.We also expand about various protection schemes employed for the
protection of the station transformer like over flux protection, diferential protection etc.,
