HISTORY OF CRICKET
Cricket began in 16th century England and evolved
from a children's game to an organized sport by the
18th century. The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC),
founded in 1787, standardized the rules, helping the
game gain formal structure. The 19th century saw
cricket's international spread, with the first Test match
played in 1877 between England and Australia. County
cricket also became established in England. The 20th
century introduced limited-overs cricket, leading to the
first One Day International (ODI) in 1971 and the first
Cricket World Cup in 1975. The 21st century brought
the fast-paced Twenty20 (T20) format and popular
leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL). Cricket
continued to globalize, with new countries gaining Test
status and major tournaments expanding the sport's
reach.
