Importance of Baptism
Matthew 3:16-17
“When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the
heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting
upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I
am well pleased.’”
Jesus gave us His example
Baptism
is a Divine command
1. The heavens will be open for them
2. They will enjoy of a spiritual covering
3. They will be adopted
Baptism symbolizes being buried
Matthew 28:19 (NKJV)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have
commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Acts 2:38 (NKJV)
“Men and brethren, what shall we do? Peter answered them saying, ‘Repent and let everyone
of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the
gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Baptism should be an immediate decision following conversion
Acts 8:12 (NKJV)
“But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and
the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.”
Acts 8:36-38 (NKJV)
“Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, ‘See, here is
water. What hinders me from being baptized?’ Then Philip said, ‘If you believe with all your
heart, you may.’

And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.’ So he commanded the
chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he
baptized him.”
Acts 10:47-48 (NKJV)
“Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit
just as we have? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they
asked him to stay a few days.”
Acts 16:31-34 (NKJV)
“So they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.’
Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took
them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his
family were baptized. Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them;
and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.”
Baptism is also for the whole family
Whoever gets baptized must show fruits of repentance
Luke 3:8 (NKJV)
“Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have
Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from
these stones.”
Luke 3:11 (NKJV)
“He answered and said to them, ‘He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and
he who has food, let him do likewise.’ Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to
him, ‘Teacher, what shall we do?’And he said to them, ‘Collect no more than what is appointed
for you.’ Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, ‘And what shall we do?’ So he said to them,
‘Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.’”
