San Augustine (Senior)

Wind, Star, Seed, Love

It is the Wind that brought the missionaries to us Palaweños. Their guide is the
Star who appeared at Bethlehem on the first Christmas 2022 years ago. The time when
Jesus Christ was born. It was 400 years ago when that Star appeared in Palawan and
invited the missionaries to come. They were called to plant the Seed that will someday
grow and bear good fruit for the many. That Seed is Christ. His life, death and
resurrection lit the heart of the Palaweños to follow Him. Those who follow Him are
called Christians. For 400 years, we are continually celebrating and remembering the
Love that awaken us from slumber.
As Christians, we are called to share the good fruit that was cultivated by the
Divine Sower. It was shared to the many but that does not mean all was given the
chance to know Him. It is not the time for us to be just Christians by title; we have to let
others see the image of Christ in us. But how can we do that if we do not continue His
works of mercy, if we do not celebrate and takes part in the Holy Mass, and if we do not
remember the Light that lit our heart ablaze. We do not hear the plea of our fellow
brothers and sisters in Christ in the voices of the poor, the environment, and the
oppressed. If we are Christians, would we turn a blind eye to those in need of us? If we
are Christians, would we burn trees and let mining continue to grow just for our welfare?
If we are Christians, would we elect leaders who do not help the oppressed? As His
disciples, we are called not only to continually celebrate and remember the Seed that
was taken care for 400 years but as followers we have to act as His instrument for the
poor, the environment, and the oppressed.
2022 years ago, Christ was born. 400 years ago, we Palaweños became
Christians. The seed that was planted bear good fruits so we must share it not only for
the many but for all. His life, death and resurrection lit our heart ablaze which became
the reason for us to follow him. Therefore, as His followers, let us be His vessel to help
the poor, the environment, and to be the hand of the oppressed. In these 400 years of
Christianity in Palawan, we are called to continually celebrate and remember the faith
that was awaken in us but remember, “faith without action is dead”.
