APPLICATION
Foam Chamber is used in one of the most common application to protect vertical fixed roof
(cone) liquid storage tanks, with or without internal floating roof with the low expansion foam
system. The application of foam is on the basis that the risk comprises the total surface area of
the fuel.

INTRODUCTION
The MAFCO foam bladder tank is the main unit of the foam extinguishing system.The
foam tank and the lowl/medium expansion foam generator construct the low/medium
foam spraying system. It can also construct the high expansion total flooding
extinguishing system with high expansion foam generator. It aims at fire of class A and
class B, especially for fire of class B. The foam bladder tank mainly applied in occasions
such as places where inflammable liquid was produced, stored and transported. lt is
especially suitable to put out fire caused by inflammable liquid tank or large scale of
spill fire.
PRINCIPLE
The device consists of pressure tank, bladder, proportioner, pressure gauge, valves and
pipeline. A pump is needed to supply pressurized water. When pressurized water flow
though proportioner, a small part of water (3%-6%) flow into tank from branch pipe to
press the bladder to swap out equal foam concentrate and then mix with another part of
water (97%-93%) to form foam solution in proportioner and provide to foam generator.

INSTALLATION
Device should be installed at places with shelter to avoid sun and rain. Ambient
temperature should be within 40°C and leave enough space for operation. Device
should be installed at concrete floorand fastened with anchor nuts.
Do the hydraulic test after installing. Open the tank vent valve first then fill water into
bladder from concentrate draining pipe. Then close tank vent valve when bladder is full
of water. Pressurize the system and keeping for 10 minutes when pressure gets test
pressure, tank should have no leakage. Close water inlet valve and open water drainage
valve and concentrate drainage valve to drain water away in tank and bladder. (We will
do this test when products leave the factory)
OPERATION
1) Fill Foam Concentrate
Close water inlet valve and concentrate outlet valve, then fill foam concentrate slowly
from feed inlet (also can fill foam concentrate from concentrate draining pipe). Make
sure bladder vent valve is open if fill foam concentrate from concentrate draining pipe.
Stop the pump now and then to avoid bladder burst if air in bladder can't be vented
timely. Foam concentrate should come from the same manufacturer and the same type.
Close feed inlet when finished filling foam concentrate. Close water draining valve
(there should be no water flow out at this time), tank vent valve and bladder vent valve.
Open water draining valve 30 minutes later, it indicates that the bladder is undamaged
if there is no foam concentrate flow out from water draining pipe.
2) Operation of The Device
① Start water pump to supply pressurized water for the device (biggest working
pressure is 1.2MPa)
② Open water inlet valve and concentrate outlet valve to supply foam concentrate to
pipeline (proportioner)
③ Close water inlet valve and concentrate outlet valve to stop supply foam concentrate
when finished working
④ Keep the pump working for a while to wash pipeline with fresh water.
MAINTENANCE
① To full fill the tank timely after using every time (foam concentrate should be from
the same manufacture and the same type
② Check the surface of the tank and bladder regularly to find out if there are any
leakage and corrosion and check all the valves if they work flexibly. Deal with them if
there are any problems.
③ Check the foam concentrate regularly to find out if it is deteriorative. Change it if it is.

Description
The bladder tank is one component in a balanced pressure proportioning system. Its operation requires no
external power other than a pressurized water system. The bladder tank may be used with any foam agent. It can
be used in a proportioning system incorporating single or multiple proportioners and any suitable discharge
device.
The bladder tanks have numerous applications including petroleum systems engineering, truck loading racks,
aircraft hangers, dip tanks, pump rooms, and helipads, etc.
The bladder tanks are available in both vertical and horizontal tank models and a variety of nominal
capacities as listed in the tank information tables. Both tank models feature perforated center tubes which allow
improved agent discharge.

The bladder tank is a steel pressure vessel which stores a foam concentrate contained within an elastomeric
bladder.
Step 1: When the system operating, the fire pump supply a pressurized water to the foam proportioner, and
water flow Separate into two direction, one keep forward, and one enter into the tank where surround the internal
bladder, from the (3)bladder tank water inlet valve.
Step 2: The pressurized water push the bladder in the tank, and the concentrate is discharged from the
concentrate tube by incoming water applying pressure to the bladder. This applied energy is transferred to the
concentrate, supplying pressurized concentrate to the proportioner.
Step 3: The extruded foam concentrate mixes with the water from the system and create a 3% foam/water
mixed solution, or a 6% foam/water mixed solution.
Step 4: The foam/water mixed solution is routed from the foam proportioner outlet to one or more foam
chambers, or to foam monitors, or to foam sprinkler.
Step 5:The above foam maker equipment mixes the air with the water/water mixed solution, create foam, and
spray the fire to the fire.

ZSFM TYPE Deluge Alarm Vlave
Deluge valve (as shown in Figure 1) ,which is mainly composed of the valve body, water
alarm gong, pressure switch, anti-reset device, automatic drip valve, solenoid valve and
connecting pipe fittings. It is a direct sealed diaphragm valves, widely used in various types
of open systems such as automatic sprinkler system, water curtain system, water mist
system. Enjoying advantages of simplenes in structure, reliance in performance, flexibility in
installation and convenience in maintenance. The valve by our company is manufactured to
GB5135.5-2003 standard with ductile cast iron(QT450-10) valve body and bonnet, Max.
working pressure is 1.2MPa.

3) Working Principle
Deluge system consists of deluge valve, fire sprinkler head (either open type or water
mist or water curtain type), fire sensors (electronic detectors, closed-type fire sprinkler),
water alarm gong, pressure switches and electric control panel. Once deluge system opens
all sprinklers spray water, it mainly used in places where the fire spread speed is fast, or the
clearance height exceeds the requirements of closed-type fire sprinkler, and the places with
fire dangerous level II or above.
The deluge alarm valve is an important component of the deluge system. Diaphragm
type deluge alarm valve uses diaphragm movement to open and close the valve. The
diaphragm divides the valve into a control chamber, a water outlet chamber and a water
inlet chamber. The control chamber communicates with the water source side. Under the
quasi-working state, the water pressure of the control chamber is the same as that of the
inlet chamber, because the different area between left and right chambers affected by the
water, ensure that the diaphragm deluge valve has a good seal to remian the water in water
supply side, while no water in system side.
Deluge valve starts either electrically or manually or by means of drive pipe. It depends
on the on-site situation. The water pressure level in the diaphragm chamber determines
either starting or closing valve. The water is kept holding down and can not go up into
system pipeline when the pressure in the control chamber is equal to or above that of water
supplying side. When the solenoid valve is opened or the emergency manual valve is
opened by the staff or the closed fire sprinkler is opened, the water compensation volume in
the control chamber is smaller than the discharge volume and the pressure in the control
chamber is rapidly reduced, when the water pressure of the control chamber drops to a
certain value, and the deluge valve will be opend by the water pressure in water inlet side. At
the same time, the water flow enters the alarm pipeline, the water alarm bell sounds, the
pressure switch action, and the linkage fire pump start.
The deluge valve is provided with an anti-reset device. After the water pressure of the
control chamber is released, the control chamber can not be re-boosted regardless of
whether the solenoid valve or the manual valve is closed again, and the valve remains open
to ensure the fire extinguishing process. The deluge valve will not be closed again due to a
power failure. After the fire is extinguished, the staff must open the reset ball valve to
re-boost the pressure to close the valve.
(a) Electric panel control:
The electrical detector in the protected area transmits fire signal to electrical control
panel which identifies and sends out the starting signal to the solenoid valve and diaphragm
pressure releases then valve starts working.
(b) Connection conveyance pipe control:
Install the close heat-responsive sprinkler detector in the protected area and have it
connected with diaphragm chamber by means of piping. The diaphragm pressure falls down
to start the deluge valve then fire water goes into the pipeline network from supply side and
distribute in the protected area after sprinkler activates. The connection conveyance pipes
can be controlled either hydraulically or pneumatically to separately shape wet type or dry
type deluge system.
(c) Manual start control:
Manual start method is usually for regulation and test or emergency start. Open the
manual start valve to release pressure the diaphragm chamber and then valve starts pushing
water run into the system pipeline and extinguish fire via open sprinklers.

4) Installation
(a) Get the valve out of package and check that there is dross in the valve chamber or pipe
outlets.
(b) Work of assembly, regulation, adjustment and test must be carried out by special people
of required qualification or experienced technical personnel. All deluge valves have been
subject to sealing test under 2.4 MPa before selling thus disassembly by users is seriously
forbidden.
(c) The system must be installed in warm and bright rooms and there should be 0.5 m
surrounding spacing.
(d) Control valves must be installed hand in hand in both water supply side and system side
to facilitate regulation test and maintenance. The pipelines must be cleaned with clear water
without muds to protect the reset ball valve before installation in accordance with the Code
for Installation Work.
(e) Valve can be installed either vertically or horizontally. But the magnetic core of solenoid
valve must be kept vertical with its installation method.
(f) Use reset ball valve and emergency manual quick opening valve properly to avoid loss.
(g) A filter valve is necessarily required before the inlet of valve keep waste avoiding sealing
failure and wrong actions according to Code for Automatic Sprinkler System GB50054-2001.
(h) A check valve is needed before inlet of deluge valve to evade wrong actions when there
are multiplied linked deluge alarm group.
The standby status of valve must be restored after regulation and test and extinguishing fire
in compliance with the following tips:
(a) Shut of control valve in the water-supply side.
(b) Open the deluge valve, drain valve, alarm valve, and all auxiliary drain valves in the
system to drain out the remain water in the system. Dripping no water means dripping
completion.
(c) Close the emergency manual quick opening valve and test alarm valve then open reset
ball valve; Meanwhile close the side of the control valve in the deluge valve system.
(d) Press the "Reset" button in the control panel to have the electronic control system reset
and solenoid valve closed.
(e) Slowly open control valve in the water supply side until the pressure gauge for water
supply and diaphragm chamber pressure gauge indicates the same level and then open
control valve at full degree.
6) Alarming Test
We suggest that the test being performed quarterly in accordance with the following tips:
(a) Close the valve for water gong to prevent water from running into system side.
(b) Open test valve for alarm gong and check that pressure switch works alarming.
(c) Shut off test valve and reopen water gong valve to restore standby situation.
7) Open-close functional test
The test is made preferably annually and in warm season. Precautions for leakage
during test must be taken and draining devices should be installed in those pipelines that
water accumulates. Should you take some methods in case of failure in opening valves. Or
alternatively use a water control valve to avoid all those steps mentioned above. Tips for test
is as follows:
(a) Notice those personnel and departments related.
(b) Have the linked electronic detector started to open the deluge valve. Eg. Open test valve
in the control pipelines in dry or wet system.
(c) Check that the system has sufficient water supply.
(d) Make the system restore standby status in accordance with Tips for Adjust after the test
is completed.
8) Maintenance
Precautions must be made and people should be on duty for fire security after related
people or department have been noticed of the fire extinguishing disability of the system
due to maintenance or other reasons.
