A slightly slouchy beret knit in an all-over 2 color herringbone pattern with integrated crown decreases featuring the luxurious Road to China Worsted by the Fibre Company.

The Fibre Company Road to China Worsted 65% Alpaca, 15% Silk, 10% Camel + 10% Cashmere. 69 yds/50gms per skein. Sapphire (MC): 1 skien, Blue Tourmaline (CC): 1 skein. Gauge: 19 sts and 23 rows = 4 in Herringbone Pattern on US Size 5.5 mm needles after blocking. *It is imperative you check gauge. Adjust needle size(s) if necessary to obtain gauge. Needles: 1 - 16 5.5 mm (US 9) circular needle. 1 set 5.5mm (US 9) double pointed needles. 1 - 16 4.00mm (US 6) circular needle. Notions: Tapestry needlle, stitch marker, 10 dia plate for blocking (optional). Size: 9.75 dia at widest point, 8.5 from CO to i-cord, 19 brim circ. Yarn:

Necessary Skills: Directions:
Knitting in the round on both circular and double pointed needles, increasing, decreasing, two color Fair Isle knitting, following a chart and understanding the symbols within.

Using (CC) and smaller needles, CO 76 sts. Switch to (MC). Knit 1 round. Join for working in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Place marker indicating the start of round. BRIM: Work in K1, P1 rib for 7 rounds. Increase round: *(K1, K1f+b) 9 times, K1, (K1, K1f+b) 8 times, K3; repeat from * around. - 110 sts. BODY: Switch to larger needles. Work rounds 1-36 of Fair Isle Chart - 11 sts. Next round (CC): (K2tog) 5 times, K1 - 6 sts. Next round (CC): (K2tog) around. - 3 sts. FINISHING: Break yarn, thread through sts, pull taught and weave in ends. block to measurements.

Notes on the Chart:

Follow chart as written, reading from right to left. You will work each section eleven times per round and may find it helpful to place markers between each section. The stitch count shown in the right column represents the number of stitches in one section after working that round. On rounds 23, 27 + 32, you will remove the marker, slip the first stitch, then replace the marker and work as charted. The first stitch thus becomes the last stitch and is utilized in the final K2tog decrease in the round.
