Jacques yves Cousteau was a famous ocean explorer, writer and film producer. He
was born in France in 1910. From a young age, he was good at swimming and scuba
diving. He lived for many years on a boat called the calypso. Cousteau’s films and
books were about the ocean and marine life. His most famous programme was the

undersea world of Jacques Cousteau. It was on TV in the 1960s and 1970s.
Jacques Cousteau died 1997 when he was 87 years old.

Sharks are meat-eating fish. They have several rows of teeth and rough skin.
They are very fast swimmers, and they can never stop swimming or will sink.
Sharks live in ocean all over the world. There are many kinds of sharks. Tiger
sharks are a blue-green colour. Hammerhead sharks have strange, flat heads.
Great white sharks have razor- sharp teeth.

Lesson E>>The travels of Marco Polo – Episode 3

April 1273
We are travelling on land. Our caravan travels about sixteen kilometers a day. We
see amazing things.Many months ago, we saw beautiful carpets in Turkmenia. But
there weren’t any flying carpets! Last month in Zorzania, I saw a fountain of oil!
The people use the oil for lights, heat, and medicine. People in venice don’t know

about this oil. In China, people started to use it thousands of years ago.

Last week, a tribe of Karauns attacked us! They rode camels and were very fast.
There was a dusty mist everywhere. The Karauns know how to stir up the dust.
Luckily we escaped to Hormuz.

It was so hot in Hormuz! A strong wind was blowing in from the desert. They say
that this wind can turn whole armies to dust!

We found an oasis. We sat in the river to stay cool. We ate delicious dates and

saw beautiful parrots.
