Paper is named for papyrus, a reed like plant used by ancient Egyptians as writing
material more than 5000 years ago. The Chinese invented the paper that we use 2000 years
ago.
A piece of paper is really made up of tiny fibers, unlike a piece of material. The
fibers used in paper, however, are plant fibers, and there are millions of them in one sheet.
In addition to the plant fiber, dyes and additives such as resin may be used. Dyes can make
the paper different colors; resin may add weight and texture. Where do these fibers come
