1.0 BACKGROUND
1.1 ABOUT YUNA
Youth of the United Nat ions Association (YUNA) i s a youthled non-governmental
organization that works to promote the work (values and principles) of the United
Nat ions (UN) and i t s further objectives in the country. Activities conducted by the
organization focus on bridging the gap and bring young people closer to the United
Nat ions-UN in Tanzania. YUNA was founded in 1996 as the youth wing of UNA
Tanzania but i t was registered as a NGO in 2005 and has maintained the “youth
wing” status with UNA Tanzania. YUNA Tanzania i s a member-based organization
and todate has succeeded maintains over thousands member s in the country due to
UN Chapters (UNC) in universities and colleges and UN Clubs (UNCTN) in
secondary school within the country and outgoing school members
1.2 ABOUT TANZANIA INTERNATIONAL MODEL UNITED NATIONS
(TIMUN)
This is a flagship program of Model United Nations (MUN) which has been active for
25 years since 1997. This authentic simulation of the UN General Assembly (GA)
brings together about 200 young people aged between 15 – 30 years from local and
international community, provide them an opportunity to practice their diplomatic
and leadership skills through debates and discussions governed by United Nations
rules and procedures by taking roles of diplomats. Up to date more than 3000 youth
have been reached directly and approximately 10,000,000 are reached indirectly every
year.
1.3 PURPOSE OF CONSULTANCY
YUNA Tanzania is conducting its 26th annual event and this year we have planned to
do a pre assessment to determine the impact that TIMUN has been achieved for the
past 25 years. The assessment will look to understand the extent to which TIMUN
has minimized or completely demolish youth challenges in different sectors and how
it has influenced youth civic engagement and improved leadership skills.
This specific study seeks to
   a) Determine the extent of improved leadership skills that TIMUN beneficiaries
      has achieved for the past 25 years
   b) Establish the success stories from different youth public figures who are alumni
      of TIMUN
   c) Determine the situation analysis for TIMUN’s impacts for the past five years
      and describe the expected impact for the coming 5 years.
   d) Develop a programme cycle for TIMUN In a duration of five years for each
      programme
1.4 SCOPE OF WORK
    Geographical coverage: This assessment will be conducted in Tanzania
      mainland and Islands
    Programme aspects: The consultant is required to assess the impacts of
      TIMUN for the past 25 years.
1.5 EXPECTED DELIVERABLES OF THE CONSULTANTS
   Inception Meeting: Hold a briefing meeting with YUNA Excom on the
     background, objectives, the scope, expected deliverables, and timelines of the
     assessment as well as the proposed methodologies and tools for data collection.
     [1/2 day]
   Finalization of Assessment Framework (including assessment objectives,
     methodology, and data collection tools). The consultants will work closely to
     revise the objectives, methodology and data collection tools. The framework
     should include a detailed plan that includes objectives, methodology, and data
     collection tools with a corresponding schedule of work. This is to be based on
     documents and briefing provided during the inception meeting. The
     Assessment framework should also include a work plan. {7 days]
   The orientation of CO assessment focal points. Orientation on the assessment,
     data collection tools and data collection methodology to country offices [2
     days]
   Conduct Key Informant Interviews to collect success stories. (5 days)
   Data processing (10 Days)
   Mid-course Progress review meeting: In the course of the assessment and after
     coding and data entry, the consultant will hold a meeting with the
     Humanitarian Data Specialist and M&E specialist to report progress and
     discuss any challenges that may have been observed[1 Day].
   Data Analysis and draft report: Analyze both qualitative and quantitative data.
     The initial analysis is finalized and presented by the consultants as 1 draft
     narrative report with highquality charts, tables, and info-graphics. [10 days]
   Submission and meeting to discuss the initial draft report: Submit the initial
     draft report and after one week meet to discuss arising views, questions, and
     comments [1 day].
   Report: submit a final draft report based on YUNA EXCOM’S comments.
     [5days]
    De-Briefing: Final de-briefing presentation outlining the key findings from the
      analysis, as well as the successes, challenges, and lessons learned from the
      activity. To be conducted by the lead consultant, for YUNA Tanzania
      counterparts, as a power-point presentation. [3 days]
1.6 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    Holder of Bachelor or Master’s degree on Project management, International
      relation, Statistics and any equivalent fields
    Experience with minimum Five years in impact assessment and research fields
    Excellent skills on data collection and data analysis
    Strong facilitation skills, good communication skills (written and verbal), strong
      research, and analytical skills, as well as attention to detail
    Evidence of previous experience and outputs (e.g. technical reports,
      testimonials with references)
1.7 DURATION
    This consultancy service will be limited to 2 Months only
