Two rebellious kids decide to skip history class. “Come on Mark!” Pete said out of breath and he
sprinted down the hallway. Their eyes darted around in search of a vacant classroom. That's when
Mark spots one at the end of the hall. They both begin to run towards it when Pete trips on a mop.
Both boys laugh and continue to enter the classroom.
The classroom was like every other. The faint smell of coffee, whiteboard markers scattered across the
room, the piles of textbooks threatening to topple over. Mark, struggling to catch his breath, heads
over to the large mahogany table placed in the corner of the room and pulls out the wheeled desk
chair. “You better not touch anything or else someone will know we've been in here “Pete says
anxiously…” “Oh relax! No one will know” Mark responds annoyed by Pete’s concerns. Mark begins
to shuffle through the desk, sweeping through the abundance of papers revealing a stain, picking up
the framed family photo and even turning on the laptop that lay in the centre of the desk.
“Mark we should really get out of here” Pete says peeking through the segment of glass in the door,
subconsciously spinning the dusty globe that stood beside him. A shadow appears at the end… “Mark,
we need to leave now!” Pete says slowly backing up from the door, spilling a bucket of soapy water
that must have been left by cleaning the classroom. “PETE!! What did you do?!” Mark shouts getting
up from behind the desk to hand Pete some paper towels in an attempt to clean this up. The floor is
slippery and unbeknownst to Mark his hip edges a binder that subsequently edges a mug off the table
shattering all over the floor.
There they stood, paralysed by the mess they had created. The wet floor masked with shards of
ceramic and a soapy sponge sat taunting them. “Help me pick up the pieces, let's put it in the bin”.
Pete turned around…the shadow reappeared this time walking towards the classroom and responded
“We have no time, we need to go.” The boys immediately sprinted out of the room…they were never
caught.
