b. If the goal is to indicate a change in time frame
from one action to another, then shift tense
accordingly.
Example of tense consistency:
I went to the canteen and ate a healthy meal.
The verbs “went” and “ate” are both past tense.

Example of a sentence that lacks tense consistency:


I went to the canteen and will eat a healthy meal
tomorrow.

The verb “went” is past tense while the verb “will


eat” is future tense. There is no tense consistency, and
this results in unclear ideas.
