User requirements

Lo2

I am a student and I have been tasked to with making an A5 posters for a magazine. The
user requirements must be included such as pictures of your local area, assets, the context
of the magazines so the pictures of the landmarks and digital cameras. Also, you must take
the target audience into consideration because if they are young then you don’t want to
show pictures of businesses but of parks and fun things.
Include:
1) The poster must include the assets
2) Must include the dimensions, so it has to be an A5
3) Must give justification for all the reason why you have used a colour or whatsoever

Pictures:
In the poster, the pictures of the local areas have to be included, I will be using a picture of
Buckingham Palace because it is the home to the monarchy in England and many people
could be interested because it’s very secure and not many people have seen it. The target
audience of the photo should be considered since if it is children, they might not care about
it. You have to think about their age, gender, income and the location, if it’s too far or very
close. The client has also asked me to use a picture of a digital camera, I am going to use an
iPhone to take the pictures because they are known to have high quality pictures and a good
camera this is where the income comes in because iPhone are more affordable compared to
professional and high-quality camera which can cost a lot. The target audience is the age
range of 13-24 because they have phones at that age. The camera has 12 megapixels on the
back camera and the front camera and the video capture is in 4k.

Assets:
The print quality for my poster will be a tiff file because it is suitable for storing high quality
images and graphics and it is ideal for images that will be printed, also it has lossless
compression so none of the image data will be lost and it will be good to use. But the file
size is big and could be a problem. I will make the image of Buckingham Palace a JPG file
because the file size is small and is easy to share so I can include in the poster. The DPI will
be 300 because it will be top quality and the image will look sharp and will stand out but, on
the web, it will be 72 DPI or it will not load properly and it will be very slow. The quality will
depend on the width and length of image so it will be an A5 poster so that should be taken
into consideration.
Colours:
The poster has to include colours in the images and the layout of the images and where the
white spaces will be so the images will stand out because you want them to look at the main
part of the poster. The image colours and compositions and the white space in the poster to
make the target audience look at the foreground of the poster because you want them to
look at the images and show the landmarks of London. The colour has a lot of influence on
the poster because if the poster is meant to be colourful and to appeal to people who are
looking at the poster they wouldn’t want to read and look at it because there’s no colour,
most people use vibrant colours since it catches your eyes because of the brightness.
Especially if they are a child then they will most likely want to read it because of the colours
and its better if the target audience is of a lower age.

Size limitations and dimensions

The size and dimensions of the poster will be an A5 and the width of the poster will be
135mm or (5.3 inches) and the height of the poster will be 190mm or (7.5 inches) and the
photo will have to be relatively small because the poster is an A5. The limitations are the
picture size because they have to be small in order to fit on the page. The picture have to
also be high quality so its visible.

Hardware
Keyboard- A keyboard is mostly paired and used with a monitor and a mouse. Without this
you can’t type so it is significant if you want to use it. A keyboard is used to enter in data
and need very minimal training since you need to type out the letters on the keyboard to
type out words. But, it is very easy to make mistakes while typing but some people are very
experienced and it is not much of a problem for them. But using a keyboard and staring at a
monitor for too long can lead to injuries and sleep loss. I will be using this to type out my
data for the clients needs.

USB- A USB is good for taking important data or information with you by putting the USB
into the computer and then it should show up in the file explorer and you can store files and
important data in it and carry It around with you if needed. The USB is good because the
storage can be from 8GB to 2TB so it can carry a lot of files and very beneficial. I will use it to
store the workplans and mood boards for the client and what they wanted. It’s a useful
portable device used a lot today compared to floppy disks.

Stylus- A stylus is used on a graphic tablet and create drawings using it. The stylus is used
because when drawing using a desktop it isn’t good and as neat as a stylus. Some
advantages of a stylus are that is more sanitary than using your fingers because when you
use your fingers you leave marks on the graphics tablet and also it is easier to make pictures
and graphics. Also, they are easy to use and also need minimal effort to use. I might use this
to create graphics designs but I am not good at art.

Monitor- A monitor is used to display the data that is entered by the keyboard on a screen
and it is significant when you want to use a desktop. The things you should consider when
you get a monitor is the frames per second and the hertz of the monitor. A monitor is an
output device than displays the data of the mouse when you move it or the keyboard. I will
use a monitor so I can type out the data from the keyboard.

Mouse- A mouse is used so then you can move the cursor and it displays on the monitor.
The cursor can be moved by moving the mouse where you want it to go. The advantages of
a mouse are that it is a small object and doesn’t take that much space on the desktop. The
disadvantages of the mouse are that it needs a flat surface and if you use it on a rough or a
non-flat surface then it will not move properly. I will use this select and use the data on the
monitor to insert and add data.
Camera- A camera can be used to record or take pictures with it and the prices of them
vary between 1000 for a phone with a high-quality camera or a digital camera that is used to
take pictures in high quality and record in 4k which can cost up to £2000+. I will not use this
because it is very costly and instead I would want pictures sent to me through social media
and email.

Internet- The internet can be used to access many different things, you can use it to
research file types, sectors and to also get digital graphics from the internet. You can also
research and get data from the internet. The internet is used by billions of people everyday
for thousands of different things and are a key thing for people today. I will use it so I can
research and use the information towards the client’s requirements and to find the right
photos for the landmarks of London.

Scanner- The use of a scanner is to scan physical documents and letters and digitize them
to put it on your computer display on your monitor. It is an optional piece of hardware and
not really needed when producing client requirements and documents but it is sometimes
useful to scan your physical documents. They produce high quality images in a short amount
of time but they can take up a lot of memory space. I will not be using this since it’s an
optional piece of hardware and its not essential to have when creating work.

Software

Photoshop- Photoshop is used to edit and create raster graphics. It is used a lot because of
the high-quality images it produces and when you create a photoshopped image it looks
realistic depending on your skill of editing and creating images. It is critical to have for
people who have a passion for image editing and photoshop. You can use a scanner to
digitalise a physical copy and photoshop it on Adobe Photoshop. I could use this because it
has high quality pictures that can be produced and a good selection of tools within it that
you can use but you have to be very experienced and I haven’t used photoshop to create
anything. But it is not free and it costs £15 per month which I can’t afford.

Photopea- Photopea is similar to photoshop because it is an image editor but photopea

edits raster and vector and photoshop is primarily uses for raster images. Its uses include
simple tasks such as resizing or scaling images and it can be used with advanced tasks like
designing and creating webpages and creating your own graphics. Some advantages of
photopea that photoshop doesn’t is that photopea is free but photoshop is costly. I could
use this because its free and similar to photoshop and the target audience is around 13-20
so they could get a job and pay but this is a better alternative.
Paint.net- Paint.net is a free raster graphics editor created by Microsoft and uses for
Microsoft windows. Its similar to Photopea and Photoshop but it is older and not as reliable
as the other two. It is very basic and doesn’t have as advanced selection as photopea and
photoshop but its free. You don’t need as much skill and experience for paint.net compared
to photoshop. It has some simple things such as colour change and change the brightness
levels of the image. It was created 14 years ago and more people use photoshop because of
its popularity. I might not use this because photopea is more of a better alternative since its
free and it’s a more advanced software compared to paint.net.

Microsoft Word- The main uses of Microsoft words is to create digital documents and save
them on your computer it is easy and doesn’t require much skill. It also has a built-in
grammar detector that can fix any mistakes which is significant for an author or writer to
use to create novels or books. It has subheadings such as ‘Home’ ‘Insert’ ‘Design’ ‘Layout’
which can create mind maps, mood boards and visualisation diagrams. But you have to buy
office 365 and word to use it. There are different versions such as word 2009, 2019, 2021.
You can change your font size and create posters. I will use this since is a very reliable and
up to date document creator. It has a lot of features that are useful for making documents.

Microsoft PowerPoint- The main uses of PowerPoint is to display a slideshow. It is one of the
most used software from Microsoft. You can make tutorials on it and make a slideshow to
present to people on platforms such as YouTube to students who want to see a video for
educational reasons. You can paste graphics and images on it to create a mind map about
your uses such as photography. I will use PowerPoint to make a slide on Photography for a
mood board and for a mind map since PowerPoint is good at creating slides.

Microsoft Excel- You can sort data and create things related to imedia such as workplans
and tables to represent work you have done on paper and you want to make a digital copy
so you don’t have the risk of the physical copy being lost or torn. Some uses for excel out of
imedia is to create time schedules or time tables so then you can manage your time. It has
many features like filters and better organising of tables on Excel. I will use this to create a
workplan to layout my client requirements and assets on it so this is a reason I will use Excel.

Laws and Legislations

Copyright- can be used in digital graphics to protect a piece of your work

from people stealing and making a profit of it. For example, if you
copyright an image, companies or induvial have to ask for permission and
if you want it could cost a fee for them to use it. The graphics could have
the symbol ‘Ⓒ’ which means its protected and you need permission. You
can ask them for permission by sending the owner or company and email
saying you want to use their image. For example, you can get fined/sued
if you use a graphic or piece of work from another company and it could
go into legal trouble with the company. Some examples of companies
getting sued by people from using their pictures without permission is
when Topshop made a shirt with Rihanna’s face on it in 2015, and she
sued the company and won. So, it is significant to ask for permission.
You can use images and other works copyright free if it is for educational
purposes but if it is for commercial than you would have to pay a fee. I
would be using this by asking for permission from the people that send
me the pictures in case they have taken it from the internet I would need
to search where they are from and if they are genuine then I will use it,
but if they have taken it then I wouldn’t use it. If you make a campaign
and make posters using a company’s image without permission you could
lose all of your work and all the money you have used in your campaign
could all be lost and it all goes to nothing that’s why asking for permission
is essential.

™ and ® Trademark- Trademarks are phrases images or a word to define

and symbolise a company for example, the phrase ‘Every little helps’ is
Tesco’s phrase and it defines their company and their slogan, if another
company would use it they would get sued and the following could
happen, the company’s brand and image could be damaged, also they
would get losses and be prosecuted by the induvial or company. The
symbol ‘™’ means that it is an unregistered trademark and not fully
authorised with the government. The symbol ‘®’ means that a company’s
slogan, phrase, image or graphic is registered by the government and
means that no one can take it. For example, a company that uses a
registered trademark is Kellogg’s. They have trademarked a lot of their
foods and creations. Like coco pops, some companies like Tesco recreate
these products by name it by a different name so it can avoid legal
trouble and being sued. There are some counterfeits and they use a
company’s product image and name without permission and make a profit
and lots of them can be unknown and not being discovered by the
company and these counterfeits use lower prices to lure people to theirs
pretending to be another company.

I would use this by seeing if any graphics are being trademarked

registered or unregistered. I would get picture from roughty free websites
that have pictures of photography and are not copyrighted or trademarks
so I would avoid legal trouble and being sued by a company. These
pictures are a better alternative than asking for permission since it could
take a few days for a company to respond to your email asking for
permission.

Intellectual property use- Some types of intellectual property use are

Copyrights, patents, trademarks and Trade secrets. They are made using
human intellect and being copyrighted or trademarks. Like literary and
artistic works, designs and symbols, names and images used in
commerce.

Royalty free is similar to roughty free and they are images that are not
being trademarked or copyrighted and free to use but royalty free means
you have to pay a one-time fee so you can use an image for as long as
you want to.

If people or companies use pictures of you or other people who have not
agreed to give them permission or without consent can be sued and fined
by those individuals because they have not been given permission. But
sometimes their parents could sign a consent form, for example, when
applying to a school your parents would need to sign a consent form
saying that the school is allowed to use pictures of you until you leave the
school.

Copyright applies for commercial use, but for educational use its
copyright free. There are some consequences if you don’t pay a fee or use
it without permission such as:
- Being fined/sued
- Brand being damaged
- Loss of income
