TYPES OF PACKAGING MATERIALS
USED FOR PROCESSING IN THE STUDY
OF LABEL INFORMATION.
PROCEDURE

The students are required to visit a


store and collect information about
the following products:
 Cereal foods-noodles, fruit cake
 Dairy products-chocolates
 Preservatives-jams
 Snacks-chips, biscuits
 Nutritional supplements-horlicks
 Beverages-maaza, soft drinks

packaging material used in the
product chosen.

TODAY’S EATING HABITS AND
DIETARY INTAKE IS CHANGING
RAPIDLY IN THE URBAN AND RURAL
AREAS AS A RESULT OF
DEVELOPMENT. THE INCREASE IN
INTAKE OF FATS, REFINED SUGAR AND
SALTS ARE LEADING TO IMBALANCED
MOISTURE, NUTRITION AND OVER –
NUTRITION.DEVELOPEMENT HAS ALSO
INCREASED THE CAPACITY TO
STORE/PRESERVE FOOD SAFELY
WITHOUT THE NEED OF DRYING OR
SALTING, FACILITATED THE
EXTENSION AT THE FOOD SUPPLY
CHAIN FROM THE FARM TO THE
URBAN AREAS.CHEMICAL
SUBSTANCES ARE BEING ADDED TO
FOODS IN ORDER TO TURN THEM
INTO “FAST-A-MAY”PROCESSED FOOD
AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET.THESE
CHEMICAL ADDITIVES INCLUDE
COLORING, PREASERVATIVES, ANTI-
OXIDANTS, EMULSIFIERS,
STABILIZERS, ETC. ARE USED TO
ENHANCE THE FLAVOURS.THESE
SUBSTANCES ALSO HELP TO
INCREASE THE SHELF LIFE AND TASTE
OF THIS PRESERVED FOOD.
