Residence visa for study, transportation of students, non-professional
training or voluntary services (SSU-SLU)
This visa allows you to stay in Spain for a period of 91 to 180 days (SSU), or for a period
more than 180 days (SLU) in order to carry out one of the following non-professional
activities:
1. Undertaking or expanding the study in one of the accredited educational centres in Spain,
in a full-time study program (at least 15 hours per week attended by the student), for
obtaining an academic degree or academic certificate.
2. Carry out research or preparation activities.
3. Participation in the student mobility program, to complete a study program at the
secondary or/and high school level in one of the official accredited educational or
scientific centres.
4. Non-professional training in a public or private organizations.
5. Performing voluntary services within a program that adopts goals of common interest.
The time required to respond
The Consular Section of the Spanish Embassy in Cairo cannot approve a study visa without
prior approval from the central authorities in Madrid. The procedures must be done well in
advance.
Important notice about the foreigner identification card
After entering Spain legally and if the permit has been granted for more than 6 months, the
applicant must apply in person within one month for an identity card for foreigners at the
foreigners’ Office or the local police.
1) In case of stay for a period not exceeding 90 days:
If the period of study does not exceed 90 days, a short-term visa is requested at the Spanish
diplomatic mission or consular office where the visa applicant resides. In this case, the
procedure followed is the same as that of a short-stay visa.
2) In the event of a stay between 91 and 180 days:
The visa applicant must submit the following documents:
1. Application form.
2. A recent passport-sized photograph affixed to the application form, in colour and with a
white background.
3. A passport or travel document recognized in Spain, valid for at least one year. A
photocopy of the first two pages of the passport must be attached. If the passport is
extended, a copy of the renewal page will be submitted. The passport or travel document
must have been issued a maximum of 10 years prior to the date of travel. Renewed
passports or travel documents that were first issued more than 10 years ago will not be
accepted. The passport must contain two blank pages.
4. Documents proving the purpose of residence (original and photocopy):
In case of studying or expanding it: admission or registration in one of the accredited
educational centres in Spain, in order to carry out a full-time study program (at least 15
hours per week attended by the student), for obtaining an academic degree or academic
certificate. It is imperative that admission or registration include the exact duration of the
course, cost, program and hours of study.
In the event of a specialized study in the health sector, a document must be submitted
from the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality to prove that the visa applicant
has obtained a place, specifying the name of the hospital or educational Center and the
period of specialization he obtained.
In case of carrying out research activities or for preparation: a document proving that
the visa applicant has been accepted in one of the accredited centres in Spain in order to
carry out these activities. In the event of carrying out research activities, it must be in one
of the universities or centres affiliated with the Supreme Council for Scientific Research
or any public or private body concerned with research and development.
In the event of participation in one of the student mobility programs, in order to complete
studies at the secondary or high school level in one of the accredited educational or
scientific centres in Spain:
A document proving that the applicant has been accepted in one of the secondary or
secondary education centres accredited in Spain.
A document proving that the visa applicant has been accepted as a participant in one of
the student mobility programs organized by one of the recognized official organizations.
A document proving that the organizing body of the student transportation program bears
the responsibility of the student during his stay in Spain, especially with regard to the
costs of study, as well as the expenses of accommodation and his return to his country.
A document proving that the visa applicant will be hosted by one of the families or
institutions during his stay, which was chosen by the organizing body for the student
mobility program in which he participated.
In the event of non-professional training, within the framework of one of the agreements
signed between public or private bodies or organizations: a document proving that the
visa applicant has been accepted to do the training without payments, according to the
agreement signed with a public or private company or in a recognized vocational training
Center officially.
In case of volunteering services:
The agreement signed between the organization responsible for the volunteer services
program that includes a description of the activities and conditions that must be
carried out, working hours, as well as available resources to cover travel, living and
accommodation expenses during his stay there.
A certificate issued by the Authority on its civil liability in connection with its
activities.
An official certificate or materials that have been equivalent from the reality of the
studies that he completed. In case of doing irregular studies, prove the knowledge you
obtain in this regard (courses taken, diplomas, etc.). All documents must be
authenticated by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (Original and photocopy).
5. A health insurance policy, whether from a public or private entity, issued by an insurance
entity accredited to work in Spain (original and photocopy).
6. Documents proving the availability of means of subsistence (with a minimum of 600
euros per month) during the period of residence required by the visa (if the applicant is
not financially independent, in this case the documents of one of the parents or the
spouse) shall be submitted by:
Bank account statement for the last 6 months: savings, current accounts, credit cards,
deposits, property, etc. (original and photocopy).
Proof of salary, pension or professional rewards for the last 3 months (original and
copy).
A letter from the workplace, indicating the date of the employee's leave and approval
from the company (original and photocopy). In the event that the employee works in a
government agency, he submits the official decision for study (original and copy).
In the event that the applicant works in his own company: the company’s
Memorandum of Association and evidence that he has paid the official fees (original
and copy).
The proven amounts should not include the amounts that have been allocated or may be
allocated to bear the expenses of study or the expenses of the mobility program or non-
vocational training.
In case of participating in student mobility programs to complete a secondary education
program and/or obtain a high school degree from an officially accredited educational or
scientific institute, it is implied that the means are available if the mobility program
guarantees the support of the applicant during the period of residence.
7. Proof of residence throughout the study period (reservation and/or payment of the
university dormitory or similar, rental contract or undertaking to sign a rental contract, an
official hosting invitation before a notary, etc.) (Original and photocopy).
8. Book the flight ticket (original and copy) to know the date of the flight.
9. In the event that the applicant is a minor and will be traveling alone or with one of his
parents or grandparents, then a travel permit must be submitted by the guardian or legal
guardian issued by the notary public or juvenile court judge, authenticated by the
Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
10. In case the applicant who applies for the visa is a minor, his parents must sign a
declaration in front of the Consular Affairs Officer of the Embassy of Spain in Cairo to
appoint a legal guardian for the minor in Spain. This legal guardian must present a
certificate issued by the Central Registry of Sex Offenders and Human Trafficking
(affiliated with the Ministry of Justice) indicating that the guardian has not committed any
sexual offense.

3) If the period of residence is more than 180 days, the following conditions shall be
added to the above:
1. A health certificate proving that the applicant does not suffer from any diseases that
have adverse effects on public health in accordance with the International Health
Regulations of 2005, provided that it is authenticated by the Egyptian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Spain. (Original and photocopy).
2. A Criminal Record certificate for anyone over the age of 16, issued by the Egyptian
authorities or by the authority of the state or countries in which he resided during the
past five years, and that he has not been sentenced to any of the prison sentences for a
crime under Spanish law, provided that it is documented by Before the Egyptian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Spain. (Original and photocopy).
Please note that regarding the foreign students who have been accepted to study or
continue their studies in any of the member states of the European Union, they can
request to study or complete part of their studies in Spain, without the need to apply for a
visa. The application must be submitted to the Immigration Office of the region in which
the study Center is located, within one month of entering Spain at the latest. It can also be
submitted at the General Consulate of Spain in any of the member states of the European
Union.
