801 - 1 DESCRIPTION - SHOULDER HARNESS WITH AUTOMATIC INERTIA REEL
The automatic i n e r t i a r e e l on t h e p i l o t and c o p i l o t s e a t s c o n s i s t s of a
c o n t r o l mechanism housing (15, f i g . 801-1) and an i n e r t i a r e e l (5) which a r e
l o c a t e d on t h e l e f t s i d e and back of t h e s e a t r e s p e c t i v e l y . Both components
a r e connected t o g e t h e r by means of a c o n t r o l cable (10). The shoulder harness
(1) i s attached t o t h e i n e r t i a r e e l . The c o n t r o l l e v e r (12) can be moved t o
t h r e e operating p o s i t i o n s :
I - Automatie locking: t h e s t r a p can be extended and r e t r a c t s
automatically. A t a c c e l e r a t i o n s of between 20 and 30 m / s * , t h e r e e l
locks and prevents f u r t h e r extension of t h e s t r a p .
I1 - Manual locking. The s t r a p i s locked.
I11 - Unlocking: a s long a s t h e c o n t r o l l e v e r i s h e l d i n t h i s p o s i t i o n , t h e
s t r a p can be extended and automatically r e t r a c t s without locking a t
the specified accelerations.

801 - 4 INSPECTION FOR CONDITON - SHOULDER HARNESS WITH AUTOMATIC
INERTIA REEL
1. Inspect shoulder harness f o r damage, contamination and dampness.
a. I f t h e r e i s evidence of broken s t i t c h i n g , t e a r s , chafing, and o t h e r
impairing marks, replace t h e harness o r r e p a i r i n accordance with
manufacturerrs i n s t r u c t i o n s ( r e f e r t o Autoflug Component Maintenance
Manual) .
b. Clean d i r t y harnesses with water and mild soap (e.g. N i s l i n 4 M ) .
C. Dry damp harness s t r a p s e i t h e r i n t h e Open o r i n w e l l - v e n t i l a t e d rooms,
away from d i r e c t s u n l i g h t .
2. Without applying t o o much force, check t h a t t h e screws of t h e harness
buckle a r e s e a t e d t i g h t l y . Inspect buckle components p a r t s f o r corrosion,
wear and f lakirig chrome p l a t i n g ; i f necessary r e p l a c e buckle.
3. Inspect i n e r t i a r e e l (5, f i g . 801-1) f o r damage and s e c u r i t y of
i n s t a l l a t i o n . Replace i n e r t i a r e e l i f damaged; t i g h t e n lock screws
a t t a c h i n g i n e r t i a r e e l t o mounting p l a t e .
4. Inspect c o n t r o l mechanism housing (15) f o r damage and s e c u r i t y of i n s t a l -
l a t i o n . Check c o n t r o l Lever (12) f o r proper functioning. Tighten loose
a t t a c h i n g screws; r e p l a c e damaged o r rnalfunctioning r e e l c o n t r o l housing.
5. Check t h a t union n u t s ( 9 and 1 4 ) a r e s e a t e d t i g h t l y ; t i g h t e n loose union
nuts.
801 - 5 FUNCTIONAL TEST - SHOULDER HARNESS WITH AUTOMATIC INERTIA REEL
1. Move c o n t r o l l e v e r t o p o s i t i o n I11 (unlocking) and t h e n r e l e a s e c o n t r o l
l e v e r . It must automatically r e t u r n t o p o s i t i o n I (automatic locking) .
2. Lean bodyforward i n t h e s e a t , then back again; t h e i n e r t i a r e e l s t r a p
must r e e l out and i n r e s p e c t i v e l y .
3. Give i n e r t i a r e e l s t r a p a sudden p u l l ; t h e s t r a p must lock.
4. Move c o n t r o l l e v e r t o p o s i t i o n I11 (unlocking) and hold i n t h i s p o s i t i o n ;
t h e s t r a p must r e e l out and then r e t r a c t again with no r e s t r i c t i o n s .
5. Move c o n t r o l l e v e r t o p o s i t i o n I1 ( l o c k i n g ) ; t h e r e e l prevents extension
of a s t r a p .
6. Return c o n t r o l l e v e r t o p o s i t i o n I11 (unlocking), then r e l e a s e c o n t r o l
lever .

801 - 6 REMOVAL - SHOULDER HARNESS WITH AUTOMATIC INERTIA REEL
1. Unscrew union nut ( 1 4 , f i g . 801-1) and disconnect c o n t r o l cable (10) from
c o n t r o l mechanism housing (15) :
2. Remove screws ( 1 3 ) , n u t s (18) and washers ( 1 7 ) ; remove c o n t r o l mechanism
housing from bracket (16) .
3. Remove s e a t f a i r i n g assernbly from s e a t s t r u c t u r e (hook and p i l e t a p e
attachment) .
4. Unscrew union nut (9) and disconnect c o n t r o l cable from i n e r t i a r e e l ( 5 ) .
NOTE Restrain i n e r t i a r e e l s t r a p from f u l l y r e t r a c t i n g i n t o t h e
i n e r t i a r e e l housing during t h e next s t e p i n t h e disassembly.
5. Disconnect shoulder harness (1) from i n e r t i a r e e l s t r a p by unscrewing t h e
interconnecting b o l t s of t h e shackle on t h e end of t h e harness s t r a p s .
I n s e r t a screwdriver through t h e loop of t h e i n e r t i a r e e l s t r a p t o
prevent it from f u l l y r e t r a c t i n g i n t o t h e i n e r t i a r e e l housing when t h e
b o l t s a r e withdrawn.
6. Remove i n e r t i a r e e l from mounting p l a t e (11) by removing a t t a c h i n g screws
(6, 2 ) , n u t s (8, 4 ) and washers (7, 3 ) .
8C1 - 7 INSTALLATION - SHOULDER HARNESS WITH AUTOMATIC I N E R T I A REEL
1. Connect c o n t r o l cable (10, f i g . 801-1) t o i n e r t i a r e e l with union nut
(9).
2. Mount i n e r t i a r e e l on mounting p l a t e (11) with screws (6, 2 ) , nuts (8, 4 )
and washers (7, 3) .
3. Guide f r e e end of c o n t r o l cable through t h e r e l e v a n t hole i n t h e s e a t
structure.
4. Mount c o n t r o l mechanism housing t o bracket (16) with screws (13),
washers (17) and n u t s ( 1 8 ) ; connect c o n t r o l cable t o c o n t r o l mechanism
housing with union nut ( 1 4 ) .
5. Perform f u n c t i o n a l t e s t i n accordance with Para 801-5.
6. Attach s e a t f a i r i n g t o s e a t s t r u c t u r e with hook and p i l e tape.
