Right coronary artery: Smaller than left coronary artery.
Arises from anterior aortic sinus of ascending aorta.
Runs in right anterior coronary sulcus, winds round the inferior border to reach
diaphragmatic surface of heart. runs backward and to the left in right posterior
coronary sulcus to reach post. interventricular groove.
Terminates by anastamosing with circumflex branch of left coronary artery.
Branches: a.Large: Marginal and posterior interventricular. b.Small: Nodal
(supplies SA node), Right atrial, Infundibular, Terminal, Right ventricular and
Conus.
Area of distribution: Right atrium and ventricle, a part of left ventricle, Post.
interventricular septum and conducting system of heart except lt. branch of AV
bundle.
Left coronary artery: Larger than right coronary artery.
Arises from left posterior aortic sinus of ascending aorta.
Beteen the pulmonary trunk and left auricle, it gives ant. interventricular branch
which runs through ant. interventricular groove.
The left coronary artery continues as circumflex branch runs to the left in left
ant. coronary sulcus, winds round the left border of the heart and runs through
left post. coronary sulcus.
Terminates by anastamosing with right coronary artery near post. interventricular
groove.
Branches: a.Large: Ant. interventricular, branches to diaphragmatic surface of left
ventricle and a large diagonal branch. b.Small: Left atrial, pulmonary and
terminal.
Area of distribution: Left atrium, Left ventricle, a part of right ventricle, Ant.
part of interventricular septum and left branch of AV bundle.
