PROGRAMME ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - 2024/2025


FULL-TIME/PART-TIME PROGRAMMES
CANDIDATES SHOULD SATISFY THE GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND THE SPECIFIC
PROGRAMME REQUIREMENTS BELOW:
A. GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
EITHER (i) A pass in English Language at Cambridge School Certificate/ ‘O’ Level or equivalent
AND
either (a) Passes in two (2) subjects at 'A' Level and two (2) subjects at Advanced Subsidiary / Subsidiary Level at the Higher School
Certificate Examination.
or (b) Passes in three (3) subjects at ‘A’ Level and one (1) subject at Advanced Subsidiary/Subsidiary Level at the
Higher School Certificate (HSC) Examination.
or (c) Passes in three (3) subjects at ‘A’ Level at the London General Certificate Examination (GCE).
(ii) Qualifications awarded by other Universities and Institutions, which have been approved by the Senate, as satisfying the minimum
requirements for admission.
Examples of qualifications deemed equivalent to HSC and GCE 'A' Levels are:
- SC + Diploma pitched at Level 6 in the National Qualifications Framework of the Mauritius Qualifications Authority;
- SC + Foundation Course awarded by a recognised Higher Education Institution;
- SC + Pre-University Certificate;
- IGCSE + Foundation Programme or equivalent awarded by a recognised Higher Education Institution;
- National Senior Certificate from African Countries;
OR
- South African Senior Certificate;
- Italian Diploma for Final Year of secondary education (Diploma di esame di stato);
- Grade 12 Certificates/Higher Secondary School Certificate or equivalent from India;
- University Examination Entrance from China;
- French Diplôme National du Brevet;
- West African Senior School Certificate;
- Australian Senior Certificates of Education; and
- Grade 12 Certificates/High School Certificate from other countries.
OR (iii) The French Baccalauréat.
(iv) Relevant subjects/combinations of related subjects included in any Diploma of the University of Mauritius or in any technical
OR qualifications, as may be approved by the Senate as being equivalent or comparable to an ‘O’ Level or ‘A’ Level may be accepted in lieu of
corresponding subjects prescribed in (i) above.
OR (v) The IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
NOTE: (a) The Dean of a Faculty/Director of a Centre may require an applicant for admission to either sit for a Special Entrance Examination or take a
specific Foundation Course/Module;
(b) Specific additional entrance requirements often apply (See under Programme Requirements for individual Programmes); and

(c) Applicants may also be admitted based on Special Cases (Refer to Section 1.6) or as Mature Students (Refer to Section 1.7).
OR (vi) Grade 12 Certificates/High School Certificate from other countries.

Applicants who do not satisfy the above entry
requirements may be considered on case to case basis
under Mature Students or Special Cases Regulations as
per prevailing UoM regulations.
14. BSc (Hons) Social Work Practice SH354 3 Years

Note: Holders of the Diploma in Communication Studies


or the Diploma in Journalism awarded by the University
of Mauritius may be directly admitted in the third
year/level of the programme. They may, however, be
required to complete at least the specific modules
relevant to their minor from Levels 1 and 2 of the current
course structure which they have not yet completed.
PART-TIME PROGRAMMES
1. Diploma/BSc (Hons) Social Work Practice SH414 2/4 Years
Part-Time
{Credit in English Language at SC/GCE 'O' Level or
equivalent}
Preference will be given to candidates having relevant
experience in social work as volunteers and/or
practitioners.

Note : Holder of a Diploma in Social Work awarded by the


University of Mauritius may be directly admitted to the
3rd year/level of the programme. They may, however, be
required to complete specific modules from Year/Level 1
and Year/Level 2 of the programme to achieve the
objectives of the programme and be up-to-date with
current market needs.

All the above programmes are under review except for the new programmes.
