Sump Pit Calculation

The document outlines the calculations for flow capacity, head, and sump pit sizing for duplex submersible wastewater pumps SP-02-01 and 02, indicating a total drainage fixture unit of 108 DFU and a required flow capacity of 50 GPM. The total head calculated is 30 psi, and the sump pit is designed to accommodate a minimum depth of 200 cm, ensuring proper pump cycling and operation. All calculations reference attached ASPE Handbook and Uniform Plumbing Code for compliance.

Duplex submersible Waste Water pumps SP-02-01, 02

1-Flow Capacity Calculation:

Fixture name Quantity Drainage Fixture
Unit
“DFU”

Floor Drain 10 2

Lavatory 16 2

WC Flush Tank type 12 4

Urinal 4 2

Total Drainage Fixture Units: 108 DFU

Total Fixture Drainage Flow: 46 gpm

 see attached ASPE Handbook and Uniform Plumbing Code

Flow required = Fixture Drain Flow = 108 = 46 gpm

Where The Design inflow is 50 GPM is safe

The flow Capacity 50 GPM
2- Head Calculation:
H “static” = 6.5 m = 22 ft.
H “Friction” =
Length of Run from pump to inspection chamber “ft.” X friction loss factor X F1 X F2
Where, F1 (30 % Safety Factor for fittings) & F2 (10% safety Factor for unforeseen Accessories)

= 35 ft. X (2 ft. / 100 ft.) X 1.3 X 1.1 = 1 ft.

Total Head = H static + H Friction = 22+1 =23 ft. = 23 ft. / 2.31 = 10 psi

Where The Design Head is 30 psi is safe

The Pump Head 30 psi

3- Sump pit Sizing Calculation:

 50 GPM flow Required Capacity. “See attached shop Drawing”

 Minimum 2.5 minutes of pump capacity between high and low water level will
provide satisfactory pump cycling. “See attached ASPE Design reference”

 Design Area 1500 x 1500 mm = 2.25 m2 = 24.2 ft2

V (volume (gallon)) = Q (flow rate (gpm) X t (time (min))

Volume = 50 X 2.5 = 125 gallon =16.7 ft3
Effective area = 1.5 m X 1.5 m= 2.25 m2 = 24.2 ft2
Effective depth between high level and low level
= Volume / Effective area = 16.7 ft3 / 24.2 ft2 = 0.69 ft. =21 cm

 the high water level should be maintained at least 3”= 7.5 cm below the invert of
the entering pipe
 the low level should be maintained at least 12” to 18” above the bottom of the
Basin use 12” = 30 cm as per the manufacturer recommendation “attached”

 10 cm for the second pump start above the effective depth

 invert level for the entering pipe from finish floor level = 97 cm

“See attached ASPE Design reference”

 Total required depth = 21 cm +7.5 cm + 30 cm +10 cm + 97 cm =165.5cm

The Design Depth 200 cm is safe

Sump pump Basin Dimension 1500 mm X 1500 mm x 2000 mm is OK
