DIY solar battery using berries
How it looks like
How it works
A berry-based dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) works by using
the natural pigments in berries to capture sunlight. The
pigments absorb light and release electrons, which move
through a layer of titanium dioxide and generate electricity.
An electrolyte solution helps restore the pigment so the
process can keep repeating, allowing the solar cell to produce
power. This simple design shows how natural materials like
berry juice can be used to convert sunlight into energy.
Why we chose this project
The DIY Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) project using berries is a great
learning experience because it demonstrates how renewable energy
works in a simple, hands-on way. It uses natural, accessible materials
like berries for the dye and teaches key scientific concepts like light
absorption, electron transfer, and energy conversion. The project is also
environmentally friendly, utilizing non-toxic materials, and shows how
sustainable technology can be made more affordable. Moreover, it
sparks interest in green energy solutions by illustrating that even
everyday items can play a role in creating electricity.
Overall, it's an engaging and educational experiment for students or
hobbyists to explore solar power.
