RECOMMENDED TOOLS:

1) 15 Watt soldering iron (Radio Shack Catalog #: 64-2051)

2) #10 Torx screwdriver

THERE ARE MORE HELPFUL TIPS IN THE FULL

MANUAL!!!
Be sure to sharpen the tip on your soldering iron to a very fine point using a hand file or a
grinder wheel, the end result should look like the picture below in figure #A, this will aid
you when soldering to those tiny areas.

Your mod-chip comes shipped to you with all the necessary supplies (i.e. solder, cables,
mod-chip…etc.) needed to complete your installation as shown below in figure #1 &
figure #2.

DISASSEMBLE YOUR XBOX

First verify which version Xbox you have because the installation will differ depending
on the model you are installing it to; this manual will cover versions 1.0 – 1.5.
Dissasemble your Xbox and remove the motherboard as shown below in figure #3.

PLEASE NOTE: ANY MODIFICATION TO YOUR XBOX GAME CONSOLE IS CARRIED OUT
AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

THE POGO INSTALL METHOD

You cannot install this mod-chip using this method because of the landscape of the v1.6
motherboard is different from the previous versions.

THE PIN HEADER INSTALL METHOD

This is the most difficult method to install and requires good soldering skills. Insert
the pin header as shown below in figure #10. NOTE: there are more LPC holes than
pins on the mod-chip pin header, insert your pin header in only the holes as shown
below in figure #4.
FIGURE #4

THE WIRE INSTALL METHOD

This is the easiest and most effective install method. Installing the mod-chip with a wire
harness allows you to easily remove/replace the mod-chip at a later date if you choose to
do so. Connect the wire harnesses to the v1.6 PCB as shown below in figure #6. NOTE:
the v1.6 wire harness is smaller in size and length as compared to the v1.0-1.5 wire
harness.

FIGURE #6

Solder the v1.6 wire harness into the LPC holes as shown below in figures #7. NOTE:
the v1.6 harness is the smaller one that connects to the v1.6 PCB. Your mod-chip
will be powered all the time (even when the Xbox is not turned on) if you solder the
orange wire (#6) to the LPC port (see figure #10 for alternate wire location).
FIGURE #7
Cut the orange wire from the v1.0-1.5 wire harness as shown below in figure #8; this wire
will be used to extend the orange wire in the v1.6 harness.

FIGURE #8

Now solder the two orange wires together as shown below in figure #9. NOTE: use
shrink-wrap or electrical tape to cover the exposed solder joint.
FIGURE #9

Solder the orange wire to the voltage regulator as shown below in figure #10. NOTE:
rebuild the LPC port by installing the jumper wires as shown in the “Rebuild the
LPC Port” section below.

FIGURE #10
Hot glue or tape down the v1.6 PCB to the motherboard as shown below in figure #11.
FIGURE #11

Now rebuild the LPC port as shown in the “Rebuild the LPC Port” section below. See the
“Install The External USB PCB” section below for directions on wiring the USB cables.
Next connect the wire harness and USB cables to the mod-chip as shown below in figure
#12.

Running Your Mod-chip In Stealth Mode

The Stealth Mode Switch (SMS) is dipswitch #4, which is located on the external PCB.

The X-B.I.T LED on the external PCB indicates the current condition of the XBox:

- The X-B.I.T LED is "ON" (glowing) when the XBox is booted from a patched
(non-original) Bios
- The X-B.I.T LED is "OFF" (not glowing) when the XBox is booted from the
original BIOS.

HOW THIS MODCHIP WORKS:

Turning the chip 'on' only serves to ground D0. When D0 is grounded, the Xbox looks for
the BIOS on the LPC points instead of the usual TSOP (Thin Small Outline Package –
where the MS BIOS is stored) location on the motherboard. If the Xbox can't find the
BIOS on the LPC it frags (Flashes Red And Green) which turns itself on/off and flashes
lights. With the chip off it never looks to the LPC so there is no problem. It's literally that
simple. All a mod-chip really does is hold a BIOS for you.
TROUBLESHOOTING
This tutorial is to help you troubleshoot install issues and give you a fairly comprehensive
understanding of what is going on when you install a mod-chip. This covers about 95%
of the problems that people have. If you need further assistance or your symptoms don't
seem to match what's here, please look in the forums for help.

1) The Stealth Mode Switch has no effect after the system has booted from any
BIOS:
- Your mod-chip memory flash is corrupt; get a new copy of your homebrew software
and re-flash the mod-chip.

2) The mod-chip will not flash with Windows XP (assuming you already installed
the flashing software):
- Remove ALL USB devices (yes even that fancy MS Intellimouse, if its USB mouse,
then you will have to go with a PS/2 for now).
- Restart computer
- Set dipswitch positions #1-3 to OFF and #4 to ON.
- Execute the Xbit flashing utility program.
- Connect the mini-USB cable to XBIT mod-chip.
- Connect the other end of the USB cable to your computer.
- Press the connect button and follow the software flashing tutorial.
