Pronunciation of -ed
There are 3 ways of pronouncing the regular past simple/past participle ending:
If the verb (infinitive) ends in the sound /b/, /g/, /v/, /z/, /ð/, /ʒ /, /dʒ/, /l/, /r/, /m/, /n/, /ŋ / or a
vowel, you pronounce the -ed ending /d/.
  e.g. robbed                       breathed                     climbed                    measured
       banged                       managed                      cleaned                    allowed
       saved                        called                                                  cried
       closed                       staggered                                               stayed
       buzzed
  /ʒ/ - television     /dʒ/ - jump, age
If the verb ends in the sound /k/, /f/, /p/, /s/, /θ /, /ʃ/, or /tʃ/, you pronounce the -ed ending /t/.
  e.g. asked                        missed                      washed
       laughed                                                  watched
       stopped
   /k/- can, stick, speaker    /ʃ/- she, station, push   /tʃ/- church, watch, nature
If the verb ends in the sound /t/ or /d/, you pronounce the -ed ending /ɪd/.
  e.g. invited                      needed
        hated                       added
        shouted                     persuaded

II. Read the beginning of three stories about three friends. Notice the way the -ed ending of the simple
    past is pronounced.
       a) Last night Bert stopped at the supermarket on his way home.
       b) Yesterday afternoon Fred called a restaurant to book a table for two.
       c) Yesterday evening Sid invited Amanda to dinner.
The rest of the stories are mixed up. Read them and sort the sentences into the correct column,
