Direct Debit

Direct debit is a financial transaction where a payer authorizes a payee to withdraw funds from their bank account, facilitated by a mandate. It differs from standing orders as it allows for variable amounts and intervals, making it suitable for payments like utility bills and credit card payments. The process involves a mandate request from the merchant, approval from the customer, and subsequent fund transfers through a mandate bureau.

merchant/seller/company withdraws funds from another person's bank account.
✦ Before the payer's banker will allow the transaction to take place, the payer must have
advised the bank that they have authorized the payee to directly draw the funds, this
process of authorisation is called a MANDATE.
