EXPLAIN

Using what you have learned from watching the videos, answer the
following questions to check your understanding and share your thoughts
about some of the questions below. Use the blank sheet provided for your
answers.

1. What are the truths mentioned in the video about the Information
Age according to Robert Harris. Include a 2-sentence description
for each truth.

 Information Overload: We get a lot of information from many

sources, which can make it hard to know what is important. This
can confuse us and make it difficult to understand everything
we see.
 Access to Information: The Internet allows anyone to find
information on almost any topic easily. However, this can also
mean that false information spreads quickly.
 The Importance of Critical Thinking: With so much information
out there, it’s important to think carefully about what we read.
This skill helps us decide if the information is true and useful.
 Changing Nature of Literacy: Today, being “literate” means
more than just reading and writing; it also means knowing how
to use technology and find information online. Schools need to
teach these new skills so students can learn better.
 Impact on Society: The Information Age has changed how we
communicate, learn, and connect with each other. While it helps
us share knowledge, it also brings challenges like privacy issues
and spreading false information.

2. Determine the impact of social media by analyzing the following

pictures:

 The picture shows three people walking past a man playing

music on a street. The man is surrounded by lots of “likes” and
happy faces, which stand for the attention people want online.
The people walking by are all looking at their phones and don’t
even notice the musician. This shows that social media can
make people forget about what’s happening around them and
focus on getting attention online. It can make people feel lonely
and disconnected from the real world.

3.
 The image shows two pictures. The first picture shows many
people looking at their phones. Their faces are all the same, and
their eyes are looking down at their phones. There are hands
reaching down from above, as if they are controlling the people.
This picture seems to say that people are being controlled by
their phones.

 The second picture shows a big letter “F” in the sky. This “F” is
the Facebook logo. There are many people below the “F” who
are all looking down. They seem to be walking towards the “F”
like they are being drawn to it. This picture shows how
Facebook is a powerful force that people are drawn to.

 Both pictures show how social media can have a big influence
on people. It can make people forget about the real world and
become obsessed with their phones.

ELABORATE

In 2012, the Philippines passed Republic Act No. 10173, or the Data Privacy
Act of 2012 (DPA) in order to protect the fundamental human right to
privacy of communication while ensuring the free flow of information to
promote innovation and growth. To which acts done or practices engaged in
and outside of the Philippines do the DPA and its Implementing Rules and
Regulations (IRR) apply? Enumerate your answers.

The Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA) in the Philippines applies to:
1. Processing Personal Data: Collecting, storing, or using personal
information.

2. Data of Filipino Citizens: Protects the personal data of Filipinos, even if it’s
handled outside the country.

3. Businesses in the Philippines: All companies processing personal data

within the Philippines must follow the law.

4. Foreign Businesses: If a foreign company processes personal data of

Filipinos, it must also comply with the DPA.

In short, the DPA protects personal data for Filipinos both in the Philippines
and abroad.
