IRI – An Introduction

The Indian Rubber Institute (IRI), a professional body, a non-profitable & non-commercial
organization, representing the Indian Rubber Industry, was established in 1987 in Kolkata.
It is registered under the Indian Societies Act, 1961 and it is the successor in India of THE
PLASTICS & RUBBER INSTITUTE (PRI), London, U. K. During the last 3 decades, IRI
expanded to different parts of India with eight Branches located in Chennai, Delhi, Gujarat
(Vadodara), Karnataka (Mysore) Kerala, Kolkata, Mumbai and Rajasthan (Udaipur). Total
number of registered members of IRI presently is over 4000. IRI is associated with Rubber
Chemical, Petro Chemical Skill Development Council (RCPSDC), under National Skill
Development Corporation (NSDC), Govt. of India for development of National Occupational
Standards for Rubber & Allied Industry in India and a training provider of RCPSDC. IRI
Kerala branch conducted various programmes for Additional Skill Acquisition Programme
(ASAP) for Govt. of Kerala in association with RCPSDC.

IRI organizes National & International conferences in collaboration with international


bodies like International Rubber Conference Organization (IRCO)-UK and national
institutes like JSS STU Mysore, MLS University Udaipur, HASETRI & JK Tyre. IRI is
representing Indian rubber industry at different in International forums like American
Chemical Society (ACS)-Rubber Division USA, IRCO-UK. Recently we have conducted an
International Rubber Conference-Rubbercon2024 at Le Meridien Kochi during 5-7
December 2024.

IRI Offering part-time DIRI and PGDIRI courses for the people working in Rubber & Allied
Industries in Asia Pacific Region. The classes are conducted by IRI faculty at different
branches. The examinations are conducted by independent agency, Rubber Technology
Centre, IIT Kharagpur as a Consultancy mode. The certificate issued by Indian Rubber
Institute with Signature of Chairman of IRI and the Controller of Examinations. This is a
professional course and well accepted by Industry for employment.
