Time: 50 minutes

Materials:

General notes:

● Speed: For this level, speed is really important. Speed will be decided based on the
student's age and level. The higher level, the faster speed. Speed will also depend on
the students’ characteristics.
● Pronunciation: For ESL student, correcting pronunciation is really important and
teachers should correct during the class.
● The teacher should appraise the student or correct positively frequently.
● If the student cannot answer, the teacher can ask guiding questions to help the S to
get to the answer.
● If the student cannot concentrate, the teacher can use TPR to motivate the student.
For writing activities, please ask the student to TYPE the answers instead of WRITING
using the pen tool.

Evaluate the student performance after class (for teachers): Please spare five minutes to
fill in the performance evaluation for the student via Kynaforkids Teacher’s App. This is
compulsory in order to finish the class. Please be noticed that the form should be filled in for
each class within 24 hours.

TEACHING TIPS & TPR:

(2 mins)

Teacher introduces himself or herself; ask for student's name

- T introduces his/her name, nationality

- T asks "What is your name?" and helps the student to reply.

- T exposes the student to How are you?

- T asks: How old are you?

AND OTHER COMMUNICATION (School, lunch, dinner, etc.) TO WARM UP THE CLASS
(2 minutes)

This is the slide where St types in his/her writing. Please go back to this slide when it comes to
the writing task.

T instructs St to click on the ‘T’ icon to add text.

Please note the difference between the 2 platforms in adding text:

- For BBB platform, words will be showed during the typing process.

- For WizIQ platform, words won’t be showed during the typing process. Once the student
finishes his/her writing, T can then correct it.
Writing Tips - Part 1

T says: Let's review some tips that can help us through the writing part 1.

T asked S questions to reinforce previous knowledge:


- What type of email have we learned to write in the previous lessons? Is it suggestion,
invitation or apology email?
*Answer: Invitation.
- What is an invitation for?
*Answer: To invite someone to join you in an event.
- What should you write in an invitation email?
*Answer: If you are not sure that your friend is free, you can check if they are free. If you know
that they are free, you can invite them, saying the time and venue of the event, and other
required information.

T introduces the task: Find the phrases that are not used in an invitation email. T gives S the
tool to cross the inappropriate phrases.

*Answer:
Hope you enjoy....!; Thank you for...; I'm afraid I can't...

T says that the remaining phrases can help S write an invitation email.

T introduces the task by getting St to read aloud the instruction.


T quickly guides St to answer each prompt orally. (2 mins)
- What should you write to invite Pat?
*Answer: Use these phrases: Would you like...?; Shall we...?; Are you free...?
- When should you and Pat meet?
*Answer: T makes suggestions: in the morning, what time?; in the afternoon, what time?, etc.
- Where should you and Pat meet?
*Answer: T make suggestions: in the park?; along the river?; along the beach?; etc.

T says: These questions give you ideas how to write the email. Let's give it a try!
T grants the writing tool for the S to write the email. (max 5 mins)
T gives correction and feedback.

Suggested answer:

Hi Pat,

Would you like to go for a walk with me tomorrow morning? I think we should meet after
breakfast, around 9 tomorrow morning. We live pretty close to each other, so I can walk to
your house, and then we'll go for a walk in Central Park. What do you think?

Review Writing Tips - Part 2

Which sentence uses the two tips that we have learned in this course?

A - Jack and his friends were having a picnic. There was nothing much to do.
Jack thought it was so boring.

B - Jack and his friends were having a picnic, but there was nothing much to
do. "It's so boring!" Jack said.

T says: Let's review some tips for writing part 2.

T asks S questions to reinforce the previous knowledge.


- What tips in Writing part 2 have we learned in this course?
*Answer: use direct speech when possible & use conjunctions to connect ideas.
- What do you remember about the tip use direct speech when possible?
*Answer: We can make direct speech sentences in the story to make it more lively.
- What do you remember about the tip use conjunctions to connect ideas?
*Answer: We can use conjunctions such as and, so, but, because to join two separate
sentences into one to make the story more connected and concrete.

Then, T introduces the task: In which piece of writing, are the two above tips applied? Where
are they?
*Answer: B: the conjunction but is used to connect the two clauses in the first sentence; "It's so
boring!" is a direct speech sentence.

T then says that these tips help the story more interesting. T can apply these tips in the next
practice

T starts with some basic questions:

- How are you feeling now?

Then T starts to ask questions on the slide.


T should make sure the S to answer in full sentences and use correct grammar and
vocabulary.

If the S cannot answer the question, T can ask a give back-up prompts.
Back-up prompt:

T explains that when the S takes the real test, they have to discuss this question with another
friend. In this case, T will be St's partner.

T gives some tips about this part:


- You should explain why you like or dislike each type of show.
- You should ask what I think
- You don't need to agree with my ideas

T goes one by one and asks St to give answers in full sentences.

Then T asks some more question about the pictures:

Finally, T asks some follow-up questions

T should take note of St's talk so as to give feedback later on (use the marking criteria to score
St)

*Marking criteria:
0: St barely says anything, it makes no sense.
1-2: St can respond to a few parts of the task (able to name some places, able to give some
short answers) yet makes a lot of grammar mistakes, which makes the answer
incomprehensible.
3-4: St can respond to some parts of the task (able to name the places, able to give short
answers) yet makes a lot of grammar mistakes, which makes the answer quite
incomprehensible.
5-6: St can respond to most parts of the task (able to name the places, able to give answers in
a straightforward way) yet makes some grammar mistakes. However, the mistakes do not
cause difficulty understanding the ideas.
7-8: St can respond to the task quite well (able to answer all questions in full sentences and
ideas are easy to follow) yet makes some minor grammar mistakes.
9-10: St can respond to the task very well (able to answer all questions in detail effectively).
There are small slips during the talk.
