PERSONALISED STUDENT FEEDBACK
This MyBook will guide you to improve those areas where your performance was low! In each subject, we have chosen
two skills which includes at least one skill in which you have not performed well, and provided practice questions for
the same. Answers to all these questions with explanations are provided at the end of this booklet.
Remember, this is YOUR practice book - no other student taking ASSET would get exactly the same set of questions!
So do them carefully. Also write to us and tell us if you found the questions helpful. Email us at customersupport@ei.
study to share your comments and suggestions.
As you know, ASSET is offered in English, Maths and Science in classes 3-10, and in Hindi in classes 4-8, and Social
Studies in classes 5-10, and Computational Thinking in classes 3-10. Practice questions are provided in all the
subjects in which you took ASSET.
Since you have taken ASSET Dynamic, the questions you were given are different from those given to other students of
your class. You may log into www.assetdynamic.com to see your paper, view your results online, or even download a
copy of this MyBook.
Best of luck!

The graphs represent the percentage of questions answered correctly. Skills where the performance is <25% are marked as W and >75% are marked as S.
Only skills having at least 5 questions are considered.
* This score is your raw score and is equal to the number of questions you answered correctly. Since you took ASSET Dynamic tests where every student
gets a dynamically generated, different paper, this score should not be used for comparison purposes.
**This score is a scaled score. Your score is converted to a scaled score through a process known as equating. This process accounts for minor variation in
difficulty among different tests given to students. The minimum a student can get is 200 and the maximum is 800.
# Percentile refers to the percentage of students that scored lower than you in the test. E.g. If your percentile score is 72, this means that 72% of all other
participating students have scored less than you have. Alternately, this means that you are in the top 28% of all participating students for this subject.
+ When you take tests more than once, your score may vary. This expected variation is considered your score range.

English
Skill: Identifies facts and makes important connections in comprehending a passage.
1. C: The "Young Environmentalist Award" invites teams of students to "plan, identify and execute" a project. The students
are not only expected to identify and decide on a local environmental issue, but also take up its cause and do something
to improve it. The word "execute" in the passage provides a clue for the correct answer. Option C refers to a planned
group or series of activities to try and achieve the separation of organic and inorganic waste in the neighbourhood. Option
D is not correct because a speech on World Environment Day is NOT a project. A speech, like a research paper or a
poster, will surely give people some useful information, but unlike a campaign, will definitely not change the local
environment.
2. D: " The following may be contacted for further information " is the correct passive voice form of the sentence in the
question as it matches the tone of politeness in the original sentence. A( The following can be contacted for further
information.) is wrong as "can be" only indicates a command or an ability. We use "can" to indicate physical ability or
possibility."May" is used when asking permission or requesting someone to carry out an action.
3. C : The final contest will be held in Sweden. The given notice mentions this in clear words when it speaks of the "g lobal
finals in Sweden in May 2004 ". Option - D is not correct as nowhere in the notice do we find that the final contest or "the
global finals" are in the U.S.A. In the notice, the value of the prizes is represented in terms of American Dollars: "US$
4,000 to US$ 10,000", but this has nothing to do with the place of the final contest.
4. A: The purpose of the notice is mentioned in the second paragraph of the passage. (The contest calls ......... supervisor-
to identify, plan and execute an environmental project that will make a difference to the local environment .)If such a
project is planned with the given objective, it would be an effective environmental project. C (design a poster on
environmental protection) is not correct because there is no way of knowing what aspect of environmental effectiveness is
expected, whether it would be on protection or development or something else.
5. B: The correct answer is in this line: " A panel comprising eminent environmentalists will judge the projects at the national
level " , which is in paragraph 4. Therefore option D (this is not mentioned in the notice), cannot be the correct answer.
Maths
Skill: Factors and multiples
6. A: For a number to be divisible by 3, the sum of its digits should be divisible by 3. If we take the missing digit as x, the
sum of the digits of the above number is 2x + 10. Substituting the given values for x in 2x + 10, we see that it is divisible
by 3 only when x = 7.
7. C: n = 7 × 7 × 7 ... × 7 (30 times). So n has got only 1 prime factor namely 7. Now if 14 or 10 or 210 or any other
number is a factor of n, any factor of these numbers will be a factor on n too. For example 21 is a factor of 210, any
factor of 21 will be a factor of 210 too. 2 is a factor of all 10, 14 and 210. If any of these were factors of n, 2 should be a
factor of n too. This is not possible as 7 is the only prime factor of n. The only prime factor of 49 is 7 and so it is a factor
of n.
8. D: As the number leaves a remainder 0 when divided by 6, 6 is a factor of the number. So any factor of 6 is also a factor
of the number. 2 is a factor of 6, and so a factor of the number. So the number leaves a remainder 0 when divided by 2.
9. D: We are told that Tanmay could divide the chocolates into 3 equal parts and 5 equal parts without breaking any
chocolate. This is possible only if the total number of chocolates is a multiple of 3 and 5. Of the given options only 30 is a
multiple of 3 and 5.
10. C: A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of all its digits is divisible by 9. The sum of the digits of the given 8 digit number
is 12 + . For the number to be divisible by 9, this should be divisible by 9. 18 is the next multiple of 9 from 12. So for 12
+ to be 18, we must have = 6.
11. C: If the difference between the sum of the digits at odd places (from the right) and the sum of the digits at even places
(from the right) of a number is either 0 or divisible by 11, the number is divisible by 11. In 1111111, we have 1 at the 1 st ,
3 rd , 5 th and 7 th places, so the sum of digits at the odd places is 4. We have 1 at the 2 nd , 4 th and 6 th places. So
the sum of the digits at even places is 3. The difference between these sums is 1, so the number is not divisible by 11. In
200200, the difference between the sum of digits at the odd and even places is 0, and so the number is divisible by 11.
12. A: Amrita has some toffees. She is dividing them to as many groups of 4 as possible. What will be the maximum number
of toffees that can remain after doing this? 3 right? For if she has more than that she can form another group of 4. Does
the maximum number of toffees remaining depend on the number of toffees Amrita started with? No! Similarly here the
maximum remainder that she can get is 3.
13. C: The sum of three consecutive natural numbers is a multiple of 3. Let us see why this is so. Let k be the middle one of
the three consecutive natural numbers. So the smallest one will be 1 less than k, that is k - 1 and the largest one would
be 1 more than k, that is, k + 1. So the sum of these 3 numbers is k - 1 + k + k + 1 = 3k, three times the middle number.
Of the given numbers only 57 is a multiple of 3. 22
A81
Skill: Applications in daily life: word/visual problems
14. B: From the slip, one can see that Harsh deposited Rs. 5000 in the form of five 1000 rupee notes and Rs. 4000 in the
form of eight 500 rupee notes. He has deposited Rs. 7000 in the form of 100 rupee notes. So, he must have deposited
70 (7000 ÷ 100) hundred rupee notes.
B: The horizontal bar in the figure shows progress of the copying process. It can be seen that roughly 1 of the file has
15. 4
been copied. 1 of 10 MB is 2.5 MB. So about 2 MB of the file has been copied.
4
16. C: Mrs. Mishra gives 2.5 ml of tonic to her daughter every day. The bottle contains 250 ml of tonic. So the number of
days for which the tonic would last = (250 ÷ 2.5) days = 100 days. 100 days is little more than 3 months. Hence option C
is the answer.
17. D: 3 feet of film is required to screen 2 seconds of a movie. How much of the film will be required to screen 1 second of a
movie? 1.5 feet, right? In a minute (60 seconds) one can then screen (1.5 × 60) feet of the movie. Hence 90 feet of the
film will be required to screen the trailer of Ghajini.
18. C: The maze is made up of 25 identical squares. Suppose the length of each of the square is L. Then the distance
travelled by Mickey is 14L. The distance travelled by Maggie is 14L. Thus, both of them travel the same distance in the
maze. Since they travel at the same speed, they also take the same amount of time to travel in the maze. As both of
them enters the maze at the same time, they will come out of the maze at the same time.
19. C: If movies 2 and 3 have five songs each, then movie 1 should have 3 songs. (Total no. of songs in the CD is 13.) But
each movie has more than 3 songs. So movies 2 and 3 cannot have 5 or more than 5 songs each. They will have 4
songs each. Can you now see that movie 1 will have 5 songs?
20. D: The ratio of unread emails to read mails is 4:1. Totally there are 120 emails in the inbox. So the number of unread
mails in the inbox will be 4 of 120. Hence option D is the answer.
5
21. D: The weight of a rotten mango is 1 unit. The weight of a fresh mango is double the weight of a rotten mango. So the
weight of a fresh mango is 2 units. 5 rotten mangoes were removed from the box and 3 fresh mangoes were added to
the box. So the weight of the box now = weight of the box earlier - (weight of the rotten mangoes) + (weight of the fresh
mangoes). Hence, the weight of the box now = (weight of the box earlier) - (5 × 1) + (3 × 2) units = (weight of the box
earlier) + 1 unit. Hence option D is the answer. Note that though the weight of the box increases by 6 units when 3 fresh
mangoes are added, there will be decrease in weight too because 5 rotten mangoes are removed. So the change cannot
be just an increase of 6 units.
Science
Skill: Definition or description of scientific terms, organisms or materials
22. C: Nitrogen condenses at -196 oC. This means that till -196 oC nitrogen is in the gaseous state. At -196 oC nitrogen
condenses into its liquid state and remains in that state till -210 oC, at which it freezes and changes to solid state. So at
any temperature between -196 oC and -210 oC nitrogen would be in its liquid state. Hence, C is the answer. At -190 o
C nitrogen would still be in its gaseous state.
23. B: As we can see, the figure shows a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. As this happens, its entire physical structure
changes. This process, in which an organism undergoes physical change after birth to attain its final adult form, is known
as metamorphosis. If it was reproduction, it would have been one butterfly from another butterfly, and not a butterfly from
a caterpillar.
24. D: P, Q and R represent 3 states of matter. As we can see, the particles are most closely packed in R and hence, it
represents a solid. Particles in P are loosely packed and hence, it represents a gas. So if the state is changing directly
from R to P, i.e. solid to gas, it would be sublimation. Evaporation is the conversion from liquid state to gaseous state.
25. B: Contrails are formed when hot, humid air mixes with air at low temperature. It is also given that contrails are like
clouds. Clouds are formed when vapour condenses. So contrails also, would be formed in a similar way when hot, humid
air (containing vapour) mixes with air at lower temperatures, and condenses. The hot and humid air is not absorbing
anything, its just mixing with air and condensing.

26. C: Fats, proteins and carbohydrates are called major nutrients because they are required in large quantities. Minerals are
required, but the amounts required are very less and hence, they are not counted as major nutrients. However, their
deficiency can lead to certain diseases.
27. D: Biodegradable means something that can be degraded or broken down using a biological organism, mostly a
microorganism. The material could be natural or man-made.
28. B: Have you tried to drop a chalk in water and see what happens? Try it - you will see that it sinks in the water. Also, if
you try and break down the chalk into powder and mix it with water, you will find that it does not dissolve with the water. It
is not shiny and does not possess any lustre. Chalk does not allow light to pass through it and so it is called opaque.
29. B: A new carrot plant can grow only from the seeds. The seeds take 2 years to grow after which the new carrot plant can
grow. So the life cycle of a carrot plant, ie. from seeds to an adult plant, and again to the seeds, takes 2 years. Which
means that carrot is a biennial plant. Biennial means happening or taking place in two years. Whereas annual means
taking place once a year.
31. C: Try this - go out at around 4: 30 p.m. and check where the sun is. Since it is towards the evening, you know that the
sun will appear in the West, and hence, the other directions can be found. However, without knowing the time of the day,
we cannot identify the direction of the earth's poles. So, we need to know at least 1 and 2, or 1 and 3 to identify the poles
of the magnet. Hence, option D is the only correct answer.
32. B: Look at the direction of the flow and how different places are located along the river. In order to check whether
factories 1 and 2 are polluting the water, water samples from before and after the factories need to be compared. For this,
we need to take samples from points 1+2 and 3+4 respectively. We don't need to collect water from point 5 at all. Thus,
option B is the only correct answer.
33. C: Carbonated beverages contain carbon dioxide gas in dissolved form. This gas is dissolved in the solution at high
pressure. When the bottle is opened, the pressure is made equal to the surrounding air and the gas starts escaping from
the cola solution. If the gas reacted chemically with the cola water, then a new substance would have been formed, which
does not happen. The cola solution remains the same, except for the amount of carbon dioxide gas in it.
34. C: Why don't you try making a set of gears yourself? You will see that when one gear moves, the second gear that is in
contact with it will move in the opposite direction. Also, the bigger gear will move slower as compared to the smaller gear.
Observe how the gears move by the way their teeth push against each other.
