FIRST PARTIAL

PROJECT
1900's
Clothes
• Womens
The patterns that governed fashion were aesthetic, with the comfort and physical well-being of women being secondary. Until the
beginning of the 20th century, women's fashion was characterized by its desire to compress and cover the female body with hairpieces;
It was uncomfortable due to the use of the corset, which squeezed all the internal organs. They used to have high, narrow and rigid
necks, which forced the head to be kept upright, while the hats, somewhat inclined and with wide brims, were decorated with heavy
ostrich feathers. The sleeves were puffed at the shoulders, gathered at the elbows, and buttoned at the hand. They covered themselves
up to the knuckles so as not to show "unseemly areas". The skirts reached the floor and flared at the hips with pleats and a small train. The
shoes and booties were pointed and rested on baroque half heels. The essential accessories were black silk stockings, tight gloves and an
umbrella. During the day, linen, velvet and wool fabrics were used. The colors were light or muted pastels like pink, blue or mauve. These
dresses were adorned with bows, ribbons and ruffles. For the evening, silk, lace, muslin, tulle, crepe de Chine or satin, were used. The
costumes featured rich embellishments and generous necklines.
Clothes
• Men
they used to wear the bourgeois male suit commonly known as a tuxedo or
dinner jacket; which consists of a jacket with a simple closure, peak lapel
and lined in black silk along with pants of the same color that could have
satin side bands. Combined with a vest and tie in white or black, which since
1910 was established as mandatory within the tuxedo dress code. And
without forgetting the use of a headdress that accompanies the tuxedo,
including the bowler hat or top hat.

• children
They used to wear comfortable clothes so they could move and
play comfortably, short pants and dresses, soft cotton and linen
fabrics. Boys usually wore suits, sailor-style shirts or tunics,
Russian-style rompers or tunics worn with short or long pants
and wool stockings. Girls wore knee-length dresses with
embroidery or lace, usually black shoes and wool stockings.
