Hourly paid with an Hourly rate of between £19.45 and £21.51 (gross & including holiday pay),
depending on experience.

Five-month contract with possibility of extension.

The Department of International Relations is seeking to appoint a proactive and motivated


Communications and Events Administrator to promote the Department’s profile through social
media and student experience initiatives. The postholder will join the professional services team
who are responsible for delivering department events and communications.

They will maintain the Department’s social media accounts, deliver the Department’s internal
staff/student newsletters, and provide other communications support as required. They will also
provide administrative support for Departmental public lectures/events and student experience
initiatives.

Candidates should have: Experience of using social media channels to communicate; ability to
provide a high standard of service to internal and external stakeholders; ability to work to deadlines
and to prioritise multiple tasks whilst maintaining attention to detail.

Key responsibilities

Communications/Social Media

• To maintain the Department’s social media presence across a variety of platforms


(including LSE Student Hub) in order to raise the profile of the Department’s
educational/student experience initiatives, research, and public engagement.
• Scheduling appropriate original content on the Department’s social media accounts, as
well as appropriate re-posting, bearing in mind Best Practice/School policy.
• To be aware of relevant initiatives and ensure these are publicised in a timely manner
through social media updates
• To log analytics for social media channels and use these analytics to determine
relevant content and an understanding of the content that is engaging.
• To attend some departmental events and activities, some of which take place in the
evening, and provide live social media engagement during the event.
• To write content, collate, proof-read and deliver the Department’s internal staff and
student newsletters, in consultation with the Student Experience Manager.
• To liaise with the LSE Social Media team to ensure that School directives are
implemented at the Departmental level, and to manage the information flow
between the two.
• To liaise with the Department’s Student Experience Manager, Events Coordinator
and Web Editor, to ensure effective collaboration on the Department’s
communications initiatives.
• To assist with Departmental written promotional materials, as and when required.
• To raise purchase orders for goods and services related to communications/social
media, liaising with internal and external suppliers as required.

Events Administration

• Providing administrative support for Departmental public lectures/events and


student experience initiatives, in liaison with the Student Experience Manager and
the Events Coordinator.
• Working with the Events Coordinator to provide administrative support for
departmental events, including, but not limited to, booking rooms; arranging catering;
organising audio- visual facilities; booking hotel accommodation and travel
arrangements for guest speakers and other participants; ensuring risk assessments are
completed where required; tracking guest invitations; liaising with speakers as
necessary.
• Solving problems related to events as they arise, e.g. finding alternative venues
and resolving AV/IT issues, reporting maintenance faults
• Attending public lectures and student events to ensure their smooth running and
delivery. As the Department’s events typically take place on weekday evenings from
6:30-8pm, please note that this position will require some evening work.
• Preparing publicity materials for events and ensuring promotion of events both
internally and externally, including maintaining events distribution lists, liaising with the
Department’s Web Editor, and creating content for social media.
• To assist, as necessary, with Departmental networking initiatives
• To raise purchase orders for goods and services related to events, liaising with internal
and external suppliers as required.

General

• Plan, prioritise and organise own work in accordance with agreed deadlines and
objectives

colleagues.

• Participate constructively in Department team meetings and one-to-one meetings.
• Offer ad hoc support to the PSS team during busy periods and provide cover during
periods of absence.
• Participate in internal networks
• Undertake other duties, which are consistent with the nature and grade of the post, in
response to Department needs.

Appointment details
The work will ideally start week commencing 5 August, and the contract will be for an initial 5-month
period, with the possibility of extension beyond.

If required, the post can be part-time (minimum 2 days per week) up until week commencing 26
August, when it will become full-time (up to 35 hours per week).
