Four Distinctive Characteristics and Four Guiding Principles of Ignatian Leadership
1. What comes to your mind when you hear the word "leadership"?
When I hear the word "leadership," one thing that comes to mind is responsibility.
Leadership is not an easy task. I consider it a big responsibility becauseLeadership, in
my opinion, entails taking a proactive and personal approach to achieving goals. To be
able to lead others and handle any responsibility that comes your way, you must
possess a variety of characteristics. Aside from that, a leader should be a good follower
and friend as well.
2. What comes to your mind when you hear the name “Jesuit”?
Everytime I hear the name "Jesuit" the first thing that sprang to mind is seek God in
everything. To make it more clear a Jesuit, a follower of the Roman Catholic Society of
Jesus, a group dedicated to missionary and educational labor founded in 1534 by St.
Ignatius Loyola. We are grounded by God's love and I have faith and seek God in
everything, I would say that I am Jesuit. Additionally, Ateneo de Davao University, is a
Jesuit institution where it is inspired by a spirituality that pursues justice. I am grateful to
be able to study in this institution.
3. Why have the Jesuits prospered? Why do they continue to prosper?
The way the Jesuits developed a strong relationship with God and their emphasis on the
four virtues of self-awareness, ingenuity, love, and heroism rather than an extravagant
leadership style make them the ideal leaders. Jesuit flourishes and withstood because of
this quality.
4. Name three persons you consider as leaders and why you consider them leaders.
a. Kim Namjoon
Namjoon works to understand and help find a common path among the dozens
of viewpoints and makes decisions for the group's benefit. As the BTS moved
from the bottom to a higher area, the shadow grew even larger, creating a pretty
high place to fly on. Nonetheless, he handles the situation, particularly their
group, in a way that is best for everyone and never acts superior to any of them.
Furthermore, his ideas and advocates have the potential to influence, particularly
the youth, given their current influence. One of their most successful campaigns
was the "Love Yourself" campaign. He led BTS with dignity, love, and equality
despite their difficulties for 9 years.
b. My Father
My father is a leader in my personal view because, as the head of their
department at work, he properly leads workers and knows how to respond to
situations maturely and professionally while also being able to perform and
complete the tasks given to him. I once had the opportunity to accompany him
on-site while he worked, and I witnessed how my father treats his employees well
and takes them into account in everything their department does. He truly listens
to his team's concerns and works to find a solution rather than becoming enraged
and fleeing the situation. Our relative approached me and said how well my
father leads in their work, which made me proud. My father is a leader who works
for the greater good, sincerely serving the company while being a good coworker
and department head.
c. Myself
I see myself as a leader, as the majority of people do. Since elementary school,
I've served as a classroom, organization, and school government officer. With
those experiences, I've strengthened my leadership abilities even more. I am
capable of handling responsibilities responsibly and efficiently. Apart from that, I
am not selfish because I see and include everyone in all group activities and
decisions to achieve the common good of all. I also have a strong vision and
desire to serve for the betterment of the community. My happiness comes from
being able to serve.
