ROLE PLAY NC1
1. Work in pairs. Talk about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Trân: Hello, Minh Anh, I haven’t seen you for a long time. How are you?
Anh: Fine, thanks. What about you?
Trân: Very well. You look thinner than the last time I met you.
Anh: You’re right. But it makes me feel good.
Trân: Good to hear that. How do you lose weight? Just me with.
Anh: I tried to make my life healthy. I try to eat a balanced diet as often as possible, including
plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. I also try to exercise regularly at home or at fitness centers–
running or riding a bike as a daily routine.
Trân: Wow, does that work? In what ways do you try to stay healthy?
Anh: Yes, it does. I try to stay healthy by eating a well-balanced, low-fat diet with lots of fruits,
vegetables, and whole grains. Thereafter, I work out for a minimum of 40 minutes and meditate
for 20 minutes. It is important for me to focus on my fitness level to stay healthy.
Trân: Have you ever had any habits which you consider to be unhealthy?
Anh: Well, there are many unhealthy habits that I would like to discard straight away. Some of
them are procrastinating physical exercises, eating junk foods, taking irregular meals, and
skipping breakfast or eating late at night.
Trân: Oh. Really? I love fast food and I can’t live without it.
Well, I think I’m going to try it anyway. I’ve got to get back to class. Bye.
Anh: Bye.
 2. Work in pairs. Talk about the importance of playing sports.
Anh: Hi, Tran. I heard you’re learning to play badminton, right?
Tran: I am actually quite keen on playing badminton.
Anh: How often do you play it?
Tran: I always play it twice a week.
Anh: What are the benefits of playing sports with you?
Tran: I think it is good to burn calories as well. It helps me release stress and refresh my mind. It
also gives me a sense of solidarity with my team.
Anh: Really? Do you think it is important to play a sport?
Tran: Of course. I think it’s essential for everybody to take up a sport because playing sports
brings great benefits to your health. It helps to lower the risk of modern diseases such as
diabetes, obesity, and heart attack.
Anh: That’s right, I think as much as you.
 3. Work in pairs. Talk about transport problems and solutions in your town/country.
Tran: Hi Anh, are you stuck in traffic today?
Anh: Yes, I am. I feel annoyed.
Tran: Why does it happen?
Anh: Because there are too many vehicles on the streets during rush hours, I bet.
Tran: How often do you sit in a traffic jam?
Anh: Just every day, when I finish class hours and go back home.
Tran: What time in the day are you usually caught in a traffic jam?
Anh: In rush hour at 7 am and 5 p.m.
Tran: How long does it take to escape from the traffic jam?
Anh: At least half an hour.
Tran: In your opinion, how could the transportation system be improved in your country?
Anh: Well, I think the first step to improvement would be to widen the roads and build
overpasses and underpasses to help traffic flow more freely which would reduce the congestion
in the city center. Also, it would help if the bus service was improved to make it run more
frequently, which would help with the overcrowding in rush hour. I think those are the two main
changes that need to happen.
 4. Work in pairs. Talk about the challenges you have to face when learning English.
Anh: Hi, Tran. You look sad. What’s the matter with you?
Tran: You know, Anh, although I had tried to learn harder for the English writing test before, I
got poor grades. I was very disappointed with myself.
Anh: I understand your feelings. Don’t be sad anymore, please cheer up!
Tran: Anh, you know what, I feel frustrated about myself. I have difficulty learning vocabulary
and cannot do the writing in the best way. What should I do, Minh Anh?
Anh: Don’t worry too much. You have chances in other exams. I think you should get into the
habit of learning 3-5 vocabulary words a day. That helps you increase your vocabulary faster. In
addition, you should study grammar points very firmly.
Tran: English has one of the biggest vocabularies of all languages, and it can be very confusing
for non-English speakers to master. And that includes me. I don’t understand and can’t do it.
Anh: Don't forget that I am always beside you, I'm ready to help you whenever you need my
help. Or you can find an English teaching center to learn and practice.
Tran: Thanks, Minh Anh.
