2.1 Song of the open Road


1. About the poem/poet and title
The poem Song of the open road written by the American poet Walt Whitman. This poem is about optimism,
energy and confidence. The world of offers opportunities to anyone who wants to use them. Walt Whitman's
works were a powerful influence on other writers. This poem is taken from 'leaves of grass'. It is one of the
inspirational poem.
2.The Theme
The poet himself struggled as a child of twelve. He dropped out of school to take up some job. To help the
family income. He worked as a lawyer assistant, printer's assistant as a teacher and Journalist. He helped the
injured people in the American Civil War.
This poem is about freedom the poet wants to go out from restrictions and comforts. The poet wants to be
self-reliant. He started the journey of new life with confident.
3. Poetic style/language/devices
This poem is example of free verse. There are many poet devices used by poet but no meter or rhyme is
used. The poet used many figures of speech such as repetition, metaphor, paradox, inversion etc.

4. Special Features
This poem is a free verse poem. This poem is in dramatic monologue. A poem is in the form of speech or
narrative by an imagined person.
5. Message, Values, morals
This Poem inspire us to explore the world using abilities. Comfort, Complaints, criticisms and fate are not
excuses for one's inaction. This poem also give a very good message that never expect anything from anyone.

2.2 Indian Weavers


1. Poem poet and title
The poem Indian Weavers is written by the most famous poet Sarojini Naidu. She political activist, feminist.
She was an important person in India’s struggle for independence.
Indian weaver's is a short poem where the poet talks about three types of garment that the weavers weave at
three particular times of a day. Every stanza indicate the three important events of human life . for e.g. birth,
adulthood, death
2. Theme
Sarojini Naidu's poem 'Indian Weavers high- lights the craft and skill of the Indian Weavers. The Stages in
poem tells about the three important Human’s life, namely birth a marriage, death. The poetess relates these
three stages to different colors and different time of the day.

3. Poetic devices language style


The poet has beautified the poem by using many figures of speech such as alliteration Simile, repetition,
metaphor etc. The poem has three stanzas of four lines. The rhyme scheme is aabb , ccdd, eeff, The Language
of the poem is very lucid.

The poem is in the form of question answer the style used in this poem is simple and lucid, The poem is very
easy to learn. The tone of Poem is positive and realistic.

The poetess describes all the important stages in human life. We can understand these human life stages very

Indian Weavers is the really beautiful poem which tells about three stages of life. It also focuses on our
culture. This poem is very simple to understand and it gives very deep message in it . I like this poem so much.

2.3 The Inchcape Rock


1)About poem, poet and title
The poem "The Inchcape Rock' is written by Robert Southey. Robert Southey was a english poet. He was a
poet laureate of England for 30 years Southey wrote prose and other poems too. But this poem is well-liked
the title gives the clue that the rock is a part of an interesting story.
2)The theme / Central idea
The theme is about an Abbot and pirate. The Abbot is concerned for his fellow humans and helps to save
sailors. He put the inchcape bell to warn ships day and night of the terrible Inchcape rock during storms . But
the rover due to jealousy he cut the bell just to trouble the abbot. Many months later, when the pirate was
sailing towards Scotland, the whether was different. Suddenly they were Caught in the dark stormy Sea. The
pirate has realised he had not troubled the Abbot but brought ruin for himself and his sailors.
3) Poetic style, language
The poem is a ballad. The story is told in Stanzas of 4 lines with aabb rhyme . The story is told in easy language.
The poet uses many archaic words like blest , quoth and canst.
4) Poetic devices.
The poet begins with spring a metaphors for the pleasant mood with the calm sea stair and the ship in a sea
water the poet used many different kind of figures of speech Such as simile metaphor, onomatopoeia
personification , apostrophe etc.

5) Special features
This is a very lengthy poem. This poem is in the form of story. The poet used narrative technique Though the
poem is belongs to 14th century the poem is very easy to understand. Many archaic words are used in the
poem.

The message is very clear that when we tried to trouble others trouble first comes to the our door

2.4 Have you earned your tomorrow


1) About poem poet and title :-
The poem "Have you earned your tomorrow" is written by Edger Guest. This is the inspirational poem. The
poet edger guest is also known as people's poet. Because his writing style is very simple.
2) Theme:-
The poem teaches us to be thoughtful in day to day life. Through the poem poet tells us to be kind ,patient,
helpful, thoughtful towards people around us . it explains the importance of good deeds .
3) Poetic style and language:-
The poet has used simple style and optimistic tone of writing. The language of the poem is easy to understand
and straight forward. In each stanza the poet asks the questions to the readers. Alliteration and interrogation
figure of speech is used in this poem.
4) Special feature:-
Throughout the poem the poet asks the question. To the readers. These questions are rhetorical questions.
This poem is written in very Simple language

The message of the poem is we should help about others, we should think about others. we should do good
deeds to earn our bright future.

Obviously, the poem teaches us good manner I think the poem tests our compassion and kindness towards
others. Really this is a very inspirational poem. I like this poem very much.

2.5 Father returning home


1) About poem/poet/title:-
The poem father retuming home is written by the Maharashtrian poet Dilip chitre. He was a bilingual poet
and translater with remarkable work in Marathi and English. In this poem the poet has described a lonely a old
man Coming home from a long day work. The poet describes the lonely and silent journey of the poet's father.
2) Theme Central idea:-
The central theme of the poem is loneliness. issolation of man from a man-made world. The poets father who
lives separate from family, friend and society, His family members also avoid him they refuse to share jokes
and secrets with him. He lives isolated in his own home.
3) Poetic style Language:-
The poet has used very simple language in this poem also he has used simple vocabulary which is
understandable to us. Some words he took from Marathi Language-chappals, chapati." The poem has been
written The in dramatic monologue. this poem is a free verse poem so there is no rhyming Scheme. The poet
has used number of figures of speech like alliteration, Similey repetition, personification, onomatopoeia etc

This poem is written in dramatic monologue which describe the miserable Condition of the father The poet
has described his father with very minutely. The poet has used code-mixing words in this poem and it is a
example of free verse poem.

1) About poem, poet and title:-
The poem Money is written by Welsh poet William H. Davies. The poet has a experience of wandering life, He
published his first Volume The soul's Destroyer and other poems. The poem tells about the rich man. who
wants to be a poor man to find the real happiness.
2) Theme of the poem:-
The theme of the poem is the inverse relation between money and personal happiness. When the poet had
money he had many false friends but when he became poor only the real and true friends remain with him. In
this poem the poet Shown the practical behavior of people.
3) Poetic device, language and style:-
The poet has beautified this poem by using numerous figure of speech such as alliteration, antithesis,
inversion, simile, repetition, onomatopoeia etc. The poem is written in narrative form which is a biographical.
It is written in first person narrative technique. The poet follows a simple narrative style to convey his
thoughts.
4) Special Features:-
The poet has taken very simple subject with a bitter truth of human life. The tone of the poem is positive and
realistic. It is a narrative poem with first person. The rhyme scheme is ‘abcd’.

Through this poem the poet is trying to spread the message that wealth is not require to be truly happy.
Happiness lies in having true and real people in life. The poor are cheerful while the rich are worried.

2.7 She walks in beauty


1) About poem poet and title:-
She walks in beauty is written by famous english poet Lord Byron. The title of the poem is beauty is the really
very interesting 'She walks in strange way of Saying the women described in the poem is that beautiful. The
title indicates that the whole living breathing and walking of women is beautiful.
2) Theme
The main theme of the poem is the description of beauty. Poem talks about perfect blend of light and dark,
inner peace, goodness, Innocence and external beauty

3) Poetic style
This poem is little bit complicated to understand through the language of the poem. The image of beauty is
compared with image of night which is blending of brightness am darkness. Simile, metaphor, alliteration,
personification, antithesis are effective figures of speech used in the poem.

This poem has lyrical quality. The poem has beautiful rhythm. Poet tries to describe the beauty of an unnamed
woman and expresses that it’s difficult to describe the beauty of that woman.

2.8 Small Towns and Rivers


1) About poem /poet/title :-
The poem small towns and river is written by the poetess . Mamang Dai from Arunachal Pradesh north east
region of india
2) Theme: -
she begins the poem with small towns remind her of death. she said that town is unchanging in all weather
but development comes along and changes everything. In that cycle of life and death life is not permanents
but the rituals are permanent.

3) Poetic style:-
The poetess personified towns and rivers throughout the poem . she also used metaphor , that the rivers are
not only alive but also immortal. It is flowing in search of place where it will flow clean and clear .

The poem is in free verse and seems to be an easy language but we can understand the full depth of meaning
only after reading it.

The poem is a laments about the destruction of nature for development.
