CHAPTER 1
Introduction
The General Academic Strand in Senior High School can determine a lot in a student's
future, especially for career and life opportunities as it is supposed to give students
flexibility in choosing their future careers. However, some students feel uncertain about
how well it prepares them for college or work. This generalist approach develops students
at Anomar Senior High School to prepare for their college journey since this gives
freedom to anyone to choose any degree program.
This study explores the thoughts and experiences of GAS students to see if they
consider the strand they have taken as relevant to the opportunities for a career they wish
to pursue in the future. The study examines the experiences of Anomar Senior High
School GAS students and their perception of the strand's effectiveness in helping them
achieve their career goals.
This would include examining students' perceptions of the skills and knowledge acquired
through the GAS program, their knowledge of career paths available with a GAS
background, and any perceived mismatches between their education and their desired
career objectives. We will analyze data collected to know whether students graduating
from the GAS program feel sufficiently prepared and how there is a difference between
how prepared they perceived themselves to be and the job opportunities that they are
exposed to as GAS graduates. The conclusion should provide worthwhile insights for
teachers, curriculum designers, and school counselors at Anomar SHS to understand
improvements in the GAS program so that students have the best chances in their
respective careers.
Statement of the Problem
The General Academic Strand (GAS) permits students to select a field from which
they prefer to explore other fields, leaving them sometimes unaware of how best it
prepares their future careers. In Anomar Senior High School, it is pertinent to understand
students' feelings about the strands of GAS and the relevance to goals for career
achievements.
1. How do GAS students at Anomar Senior High School perceive the importance of the
strand in preparing them for future career opportunities?
2. What are the career aspirations of GAS students at Anomar SHS?
3. Do students feel that the GAS curriculum supports their goals?
4. What challenges do students face in connecting towards career?
5. What suggestions do students have to make the GAS strand more meaningful for their
future?
Significance of Study
Many key stakeholders will benefit from this study, which looks into how Anomar
SHS GAS students perceive the relevance of their selected strand to future job options.
1. Students: GAS
students have better knowledge about professions in the strand they choose so that they
can make good decisions on education, experience, and
expertise, decreasing uncertainty and increasing job
opportunities, with interest on the completion of missing experiences or supplies.
2. Teachers and school administrators: The report evaluates GAS's workplace
skills preparing children, indicating areas of education and job aspirations that are
lacking. It suggests that educators should be aware of these areas for better career
development support and teaching techniques, thus balancing funding and improving
the overall quality of the GAS program.
3. Guidance Counselor: The conclusion of this research will serve to provide
information as a tool of guidance for school counselors in guidance advice given
to GAS
students pertaining to career opportunities. Student's perceptions would contribute to a
means of effective targeting and proper advisement that makes the students opt for prop
er direction in the future with regard to educational or vocational interest.
This includes connecting them up with relevant mentors, internships, or opportunities
for further education.
4. Curriculum developers and policy makers: The findings of this study could
contribute to more general policy debates on career trajectories and curriculum
design. How relevant or irrelevant the GAS strand was perceived to be would depend
on decisions in the decision process for making curriculum change, introducing new
career programs, and resource provisioning for aiding transitions of students from
schools to the workplace.
5. Parents and the Community: Through the outcomes, parents and the
public will be educated about the benefits of the workforce readiness of the GAS
strand. As a result of this knowledge, the school's academic programs are
now gaining more support, and the aid
that students require for professional development can contribute to a
stronger relationship between the community and school.
In conclusion, the study is significant because it may make Anomar SHS's GAS
students better prepared for the workforce;
thus, effectiveness in the academic program of the school will increase and lead to more
general educational policy directions for preparation for future employment. The
outcomes will impact the lives of politicians, educators, parents, counselors, and
kids immediately.

Scope and Limitations
This research is done at Anomar National High School in Brgy. Anomar, Surigao City.
The respondents of this research are the Grades 11 and 12 (GAS). This research is done
during the second semester S.Y. 2025-2026, JANUARY 2025.
Definition of Terms
The following terms are therefore explained simply in relation to life experience to
facilitate an understanding by all as to why they are crucial in this study.
1. General Academic Strand (GAS): The academic track in senior high school that
allows the student freedom to experiment and explore several kinds of subjects but not
confined to one kind of field. It is actually best suited to students who do not know their
career goals in life yet.
2. Perception: Perception of GAS students about whether or not they believe the strand
would be useful to them for their future profession and career.
3. Relevance: The ability of the GAS program to relate to students' career aspirations
and help prepare them for those choices.
4. Employment Opportunities: This will be jobs or professions that the GAS students
could be targeting or preparing for when they graduate from college, vocational training,
or when entering the workforce.
5. Curriculum: All these are skills and knowledge that students are supposed to gain
from the GAS program for future participation.
6. Challenges: The challenges or obstacles that GAS students experience in linking what
they learn in school to their dreams and future goals.
7. Recommendations: Ideas or suggestions of the GAS students on how the program
could be improved in support of their dreams and career aspirations.
Research Instrument
The researchers conducted the gathering of information by using a structured interview
guide about factors that are connected to the factors used in researching challenges
associated with the Statement of the Problem namely perceiving the importance of
preparing a strand, career aspirations, existence of support, potential challenges they
might face, and suggestions by the chosen respondents.
