Activity 2
This artwork represents globalization by showing a figure holding up a globe. The lines on the
globe look like a network, symbolizing how the world is connected. The glowing effect around the figure
gives it a powerful presence, as if globalization is something big and unavoidable. The jagged shape in
the middle could represent technology, change, or even struggles that come with globalization. The rough
background makes it feel like globalization isn’t always smooth it has challenges too. Overall, it shows
how people carry the weight of globalization, both its good and bad sides.
Activity 3
1. Are societies in the world becoming more similar (homogenous) or more different
(heterogeneous)?
Societies are experiencing both homogenization and heterogenization at the same time. On one
hand, globalization spreads common cultural, economic, and political practices, making societies
more similar (homogeneous). For example, many countries adopt Western brands, governance
models, and economic policies. On the other hand, globalization also leads to cultural
hybridization, where local traditions mix with global influences, creating unique cultural
expressions (heterogeneous).
2. What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of homogenization of culture?
How about heterogenization?
Advantages of Homogenization:
o Promotes global understanding and unity.
o Makes communication and business easier across nations.
o Encourages economic growth through a shared market system.
Disadvantages of Homogenization:
o Leads to cultural loss as dominant cultures overpower local traditions.
o Increases Western cultural imperialism and economic inequality.
o Reduces cultural diversity, making the world less unique.
Advantages of Heterogenization:
o Preserves local traditions while allowing cultural exchange.
o Encourages creativity and innovation through cultural fusion.
o Strengthens local identities in a globalized world.
Disadvantages of Heterogenization:
o Can lead to cultural misunderstandings and conflicts.
o Might create resistance to global integration.
o Can result in uneven economic development due to differing systems.

Five Daily Life Experiences Affected by Globalization
1. Using Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram)
o People from different countries interact in real-time, share trends, and consume the same
content, making communication borderless.
2. Watching International Movies and TV Shows
o Platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube allow access to films and series from
different cultures, promoting cultural exchange and global influence.
3. Eating at Fast Food Chains (McDonald’s, KFC, Jollibee, Starbucks)
o Global brands adapt their menus to fit local tastes, showing both standardization
(homogenization) and adaptation (heterogenization).
4. Online Shopping from International Brands (Shopee, Lazada, Amazon, Shein)
o People can buy products from other countries, making goods from different cultures more
accessible worldwide.
5. Watching International Sports Events (FIFA World Cup, Olympics, NBA, eSports)
o Athletes from different nationalities compete on a global stage, and sports leagues (like
the NBA or Premier League) have fans worldwide.
Is the Contemporary World Becoming More Similar (Homogeneous) or More Different
(Heterogeneous)?
The world is becoming both homogeneous and heterogeneous due to globalization. Many aspects of
daily life, such as technology, entertainment, and food, are becoming similar worldwide, making cultures
more connected and standardized (homogeneous). However, there is also heterogeneity because people
adapt global influences to fit their local customs, such as unique fashion styles, regional food adaptations,
and local sports variations.
Overall, globalization leads to a mix of both homogenization (sameness) and heterogenization
(cultural diversity) depending on how societies accept and modify global trends.
