Building Your Personal Brand
Goal: Identify and showcase your personal brand.
Role: Personal Brand Developer
Audience: Your audience is your community.
Situation: It’s some time in the future and you’re kind of a big deal. A movie producer wants to create a
movie of your life. They want you to show them who you were in high school to help cast their movie.
Product: You will create a collage using several words, pictures, drawings, ect. to showcase your
personal (high school) brand on an 8.5x11 piece of paper.
Success: Your brand should be displayed in a clean, concise, colorful, appropriate, and UNIQUE way
on a single 8.5x11 piece of paper. You should include…
   ● Your Name
   ● Personal Brand Values (4-5 Core Values that you hold true to you, ie.
      Respect, honor, happiness etc.)
   ● A variety of images (at least 15) that communicate your Unique Value Proposition of Your
     Personal Brand
         ○ Personal Values: Your story, personal beliefs, volunteering, hidden talents and skills, and
             networking and memberships
         ○ Technical Values: Qualifications or training and development, professional skills and
             talents, professional achievements
   ● Key Message of Your Personal Brand (What do you want others to know?)
   ● Consistent Brand Color Scheme: Pick no more than 3 colors to showcase your personality.
(Think about what colors you will use. To neutral can be bland, to bold can be off putting, black
and white while professional does not encourage people to see Your Brand)
   ● Your Personal Brand Visuals (This is like a signature, specialty font, image treatments, color
     palettes, personal clothing style)
Additional Items to Consider:
Robert Greene, writer of “The 48 Laws of Power,” stated: “At the start of your career, you must attach
your name and reputation to a quality, an image, that sets you apart from other people. This image can
be something like a characteristic style of dress, or a personality quirk that amuses people and gets
talked about. Once the image is established, you have an appearance, a place in the sky for your star.”
What he means is to realize Your Personal Brand will be with you for a very long time. That does not
mean it can not change and evolve as you grow and learn. It means you should put a great deal of
thought into Your Personal Brand so that it can be recognizable.
