Research Title: Perception of Grade 12 EIM Learners on the Lack of
Electrical Laboratory at Binahaan Integrated School
I. Introduction
The lack of a proper electrical laboratory in educational institutions,
particularly in technical-vocational courses like Electrical Installation and
Maintenance (EIM), has become a significant concern in the Philippines. The
Department of Education (DepEd) has emphasized the importance of providing
adequate facilities and equipment to support technical skills development,
which is crucial for students’ readiness in the workforce (DepEd, 2022).
According to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
(TESDA), the lack of hands-on training in an electrical laboratory hinders the
students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge into practical skills, which is a
vital component of technical education (TESDA, 2023). This challenge affects
the learning outcomes and may limit the employability of students who are not
able to practice essential skills in a real-world setting.
At Binahaan Integrated School, Grade 12 EIM learners face similar
limitations in their learning environment due to the absence of an electrical
laboratory. A local study by Santiago (2022) highlighted that students in
technical courses often resort to makeshift learning methods or rely heavily on
theoretical instruction, which reduces their overall engagement and practical
competence. This study aims to assess the perceptions of EIM learners
regarding the lack of an electrical laboratory and explore how this limitation
impacts their learning experience. Furthermore, it seeks to identify strategies

employed by the learners to cope with this challenge and the implications it
holds for their skill development and career readiness.
II. Objectives of the Study
The study aims to explore the perceptions and experiences of Grade 12
EIM learners at Binahaan Integrated School regarding the lack of an electrical
laboratory. Specifically, this research seeks to answer the following questions:
1. What are the perceptions of Grade 12 EIM learners on the lack of an
electrical laboratory at Binahaan Integrated School?
2. How does the absence of an electrical laboratory impact the learning
experiences of EIM learner?
3. What strategies do EIM learners implement to overcome the challenges
caused by the absence of an electrical laboratory?
