Question No. V (10 marks) - Read the passage (Text)
I. Read the passage.
If you were asked the question “What is happiness?”, then what would be your answer? It may be
hard for you to come up with a clear-cut answer. Your answer may be different from those of other people.
Moreover, the definition of happiness may change over time – today’s view on happiness may be a different
one tomorrow. Thus, happiness is a difficult concept to measure, because it is not constant.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary (2016), ‘happiness’ means ‘a state of well-being and
contentment’. Psychologically, when you are in a peaceful state of mind or when you have no stressful
factors to think about, you are most likely to feel relaxed and happy. Whatever you are – a student, a worker,
a housewife or a pensioner, happiness means a better quality of life.

Have a good relationship with friends and family
It seems reasonable to assume that what makes people really happy is their relationships with others.
Having a wide circle of friends and family is more enjoyable than having a lot of money. In addition, people
with large families and lots of close friends are happier than people who live on their own. Sometimes you
may not be in a good mood or may feel depressed. At that time, if you hang out with friends or spend time
with your family, your stressful feelings will be released. It has even been suggested that a happy home life
and good friends can protect against illness.
Love your work and enjoy what you are doing
Some people feel passionate about their work and love what they are doing. In fact, job satisfaction
and career success are important factors for your happiness. For example, you tend to achieve happiness
when you can accomplish the tasks you have undertaken or when you become prosperous while doing the
work you enjoy.
Be kind and help others
Treating everyone with kindness is another key element of happiness. Acts of kindness have the
potential to make the world a happier place. According to studies by psychologists in different countries,
when you help other people, it is not only good for them, it also makes you feel happier. A new survey has

Have a positive attitude to life
It is often said that life is composed of positive elements and negative elements. Having a positive
attitude to life is a good way of finding happiness. For example, when you encounter difficulties in your
school or work, you may feel disappointed and downhearted. At such a time, you must try to adopt a positive
attitude to cope with these problems. You must also learn how to live contentedly with the negative elements
of life rather than attempt to live a life where nothing bad ever happens. If you respond very positively to
everything that happens, you will surely find happiness.
Think back to sweet memories from the past
You may be in a bad mood or feel downhearted from time to time, simply because you are looking
inside you, thinking about bad things. A group of psychologists have discovered that thinking back to
pleasant incidents in the past can improve your mood and make you more cheerful. For example, think about
something in your childhood that gives you great pleasure, look at old photos showing happy events or
recall hearing news of someone’s good fortunes. These sweet memories can put you in a better mood – they
can make you smile, laugh or feel joyful.
Practise meditation or mindfulness
Nowadays, people may suffer from work-related stress, which leads to severe diseases such as
diabetes and heart disease. To reduce stress, people practise meditation, which is also known as
mindfulness. The idea is that you find a clean floor, sit still and pay attention to what is happening to you at
that very moment. You should not think about the past or the future, just the present. Meditation will ease
the tension in your body, clear your mind of negative thoughts and give you a sense of inner peace and well-
being.

Question No. VI (10 marks) - Read the passage (Unseen)
I. Read the passage.
Read the passage.
Happiness is something which we can’t describe in words; it can only be felt from someone’s
expression of a smile. Likewise, happiness is a signal or identification of good and prosperous life.
Happiness is very simple to feel and difficult to describe. Moreover, happiness comes from within and no one
can steal your happiness. Every day we see and meet people who look happy from the outside but deep down
that they are broken and are sad from the inside. For many people, money is the main cause of happiness or
grief. But this is not right. Money can buy you food, luxurious house, healthy lifestyle servants, and many
more facilities but money can’t buy you happiness.
And if money can buy happiness then the rich would be the happiest person on the earth. But, we see
a contrary image of the rich as they are sad, fearful, anxious, stressed, and suffering from various problems.
In addition, although they have money, they lack in social life with their family especially their wives and this
is the main cause of divorce among them. Also, due to money, they feel insecurity that everyone is after their
money so to safeguard their money and them they hire security while the condition of the poor is just the
opposite. They do not have money but they are happy and stress-free from these problems. In addition, they
take care of their wife and children and their divorce rate is also very low.

Honesty is another notable quality of a leader. Honesty and Integrity are important to earn the love of

followers will reduce. Another important quality is decision making. Above all, if a leader makes poor
decisions then other qualities will not matter. Furthermore, good decision making ensures the success of the
entire group. If the leader makes poor decisions, then the efforts of followers won’t matter. A good leader

Question No. IX (15 marks) – Essay Writing
How to live happily in life
Happiness is a universal goal that transcends cultures and societies. We all strive to live a happy life,
but the path to happiness can often seem elusive. However, happiness need not be a complex and
unattainable goal. In fact, living a happy life can be achieved by adopting a few simple principles and
making conscious choices.
First and foremost, cultivating positive relationships is essential for a happy life. Human beings are
inherently social creatures, and our well-being is closely tied to the quality of our relationships. Nurture your
bonds with friends and family, and prioritize spending time with loved ones. Engage in meaningful
conversations, share experiences, and offer support when needed. By building and maintaining strong social
connections, you'll create a safety net of emotional support that can bring immense joy to your life.
Secondly, living in the present moment is another key to happiness. It's easy to get caught up in the
past or worry about the future, but doing so can rob you of the joy of the present. Practice mindfulness by
focusing on the here and now. Savor the little things in life, such as a beautiful sunset, a warm cup of tea, or
the laughter of children playing. By appreciating the present moment, you can reduce stress and anxiety, and
increase your overall sense of contentment.
Lastly, pursuing your passions and finding a sense of purpose can significantly contribute to your
happiness. Identify what truly excites and fulfills you, whether it's a hobby, a career, or a cause you're
passionate about, and devote time and energy to it. When you are engaged in activities that align with your
interests and values, you'll experience a profound sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. This, in turn,
can enhance your overall happiness and well-being.
In conclusion, living a happy life doesn't require a complex recipe or an extravagant lifestyle. By
focusing on nurturing positive relationships, living in the present moment, and pursuing your passions and
purpose, you can significantly enhance your well-being. Remember that happiness is a journey, not a
destination, and it's often the simple things in life that bring us the most joy. Embrace these principles, and
you'll be well on your way to a happier and more fulfilling life.
The importance of having a good relationship with people
Good relationships are the cornerstone of a fulfilling and successful life. Whether in our personal or
professional spheres, the quality of our connections with others can have a profound impact on our overall
well-being and achievements. These relationships are not just about being liked or having a vast network of
acquaintances; they are about building genuine, meaningful connections with people. In this essay, we will
explore the importance of fostering positive relationships with others and how it can positively influence our
lives.
First and foremost, good relationships provide a support system that can help us navigate the
challenges and obstacles that life presents. In times of personal crisis or professional setbacks, having a
strong network of friends, family, and colleagues can provide the emotional and practical support needed to
overcome adversity. These relationships offer a safe space for sharing our thoughts and feelings, seeking

advice, or simply finding comfort in knowing that we are not alone in our struggles. When we have a good
support system in place, we are better equipped to face life's difficulties with resilience and determination.
Furthermore, positive relationships can significantly impact our personal and professional growth. In
a professional context, building and maintaining good relationships with colleagues and superiors can
enhance career opportunities and create a conducive work environment. It can lead to collaborations,
innovative ideas, and the exchange of knowledge that can fuel career advancement. In our personal lives,
healthy relationships can boost self-esteem and overall happiness, as they provide a sense of belonging and
validation. When we feel valued and appreciated by others, we are more likely to have a positive self-image
and higher levels of self-confidence.
In conclusion, good relationships are the foundation upon which a satisfying and prosperous life is
built. They offer emotional support during tough times, provide opportunities for personal and professional
growth, and contribute to our overall well-being. It is essential to invest time and effort in nurturing these
relationships, whether through active listening, empathy, or simply being there for others when they need us.
By doing so, we can reap the myriad benefits of positive connections with people and lead more enriched
and fulfilling lives.
Money can make everything
Money, often touted as the key to unlocking all doors, is a ubiquitous force in our lives. It's
undeniable that money can make many things easier, providing access to resources and opportunities.
However, the belief that money can make everything easy is a fallacy. This essay will argue that while
money undoubtedly facilitates numerous aspects of life, it cannot address all our needs and desires, and it
can sometimes bring more problems than solutions. To provide a balanced perspective, we will also explore
the counterargument that money's influence is far-reaching and transformative.
Money is a potent tool for improving the quality of life. It can secure basic necessities such as food,
shelter, and clothing. Financial stability allows individuals to access education, healthcare, and better living
conditions, contributing to an enhanced overall well-being. It facilitates travel, leisure, and personal growth.
In this regard, money indeed simplifies life.
However, the belief that money can make everything easy ignores its limitations. A counterargument
often put forward is that money can resolve even complex problems, such as health issues or relationship
conflicts. While money can certainly ease some aspects of these challenges, it cannot eliminate them
entirely. In the realm of health, no amount of wealth can guarantee a cure for certain diseases. Similarly,
interpersonal relationships depend on factors like trust, communication, and emotional connection, which
money cannot buy. In fact, excessive wealth can sometimes lead to isolation and trust issues, as people may
wonder if they are loved for themselves or their financial resources.
Furthermore, the pursuit of money can have negative consequences. The relentless pursuit of wealth
can lead to stress, anxiety, and a focus on materialism that can overshadow more profound aspects of life,
such as family, friendships, and personal growth. In the race for financial success, individuals may
compromise their values and ethics, leading to moral dilemmas and guilt.
In conclusion, while it is undeniable that money can simplify many aspects of life, it is a fallacy to
believe it can make everything easy. Money has its limitations, and the counterargument that it can solve all
problems oversimplifies its role. The pursuit of wealth should be balanced with a focus on holistic well-
being, relationships, and ethical values. Money, when used wisely, can indeed enhance our lives, but it
should not be seen as the panacea for all of life's challenges.
