ONGC is structured to manage its entire value chain from exploration and
production to processing and support operations

Assets (Grey) :
These are specific oil and gas fields or production areas. Examples include Mumbai High, Bassein & Satellite, Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar, etc. Assets are the core
productive units where oil and gas extraction takes place.

Basins (Green) :
These represent geological regions or sedimentary basins where oil and gas exploration and production occur. Examples include Western Offshore, Western
Onshore, Assam & Assam Arakan, Cauvery, etc. Basins are larger geographical areas that may contain multiple assets.

Plants (Pink):
These are processing facilities where extracted hydrocarbons are treated, refined, or processed. Examples include Uran Plant, Hazira Plant, and C2-C3 Plant.
These plants prepare the raw oil and gas for further use or distribution.

Services (Black and Orange):


These are specialized operational support units. They're divided into two colors, indicating different types of services:
Black: Operational services like Drilling Services, Geophysical Services, Logging Services
Orange: More research or development-oriented services like IRS, GEOPIC, KDMIPE, etc.

Corporate Services (Light Blue):


These are support functions that serve the entire organization. Examples include Corporate ER (Employee Relations), Corporate HRD (Human Resource
Development),
ONGC follows departmentation by function at board level

The Chairman & CEO oversee the entire organization. Directly under the CEO are several key corporate functions:

• Corporate Planning - Responsible for long-term strategic planning and business development.
• MD, ONGC Videsh Ltd. - This is a separate entity focusing on ONGC's international operations
• Company Secretary - Ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
• Chief Vigilance Officer - Oversees internal integrity and anti-corruption measures.
• Corporate Communications - Manages internal and external communications.
• HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) - Crucial for maintaining safety standards in this high-risk industry.

Director (Production- Offshore)

Director (Production – Offshore) is primarily responsible for offshore operations. This


includes:

• Departments like Mumbai High, Bassein & Satellite, Heera & Neelam, and Eastern
Offshore
• Offshore-specific units like Offshore Logistics, PSC-JVs, Offshore Engineering, and
Offshore Tech & Projects
ONGC follows geographical departmentation at top and mid level

Director (Production- Onshore)

Director (Onshore) is clearly responsible for onshore operations. These


include:
• Onshore assets like Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar, Mehsana, Cambay,
Assam, Bokaro, etc.
• Onshore plants such as Uran Plant, Hazira Plant, C2-C3 Plant

The Director heads reservoir management, regional gas pipeline networks,


transnational hydrocarbons pipeline projects, through Regional Heads, Onshore
Project Managers, Reservoir Engineers, Field Operators, etc.
ONGC follows geographical departmentation at top and mid level

Director (Exploration)

Oversees ONGC's exploration of new reserves via seismic imaging and geological
modeling, covering Western Offshore, Assam Arakan, and other major basins. Supported
by:
• Geophysical Services, IRS (Reservoir Studies), and exploration divisions working on
cutting-edge data analytics​(en).
• NMFD (New Methods for Discoveries) and frontier teams focused on identifying
untapped oil and gas fields.

A core group that provides the facilities for Exploration and Transportation of Hydrocarbon in
Western Offshore is the Offshore Engineering Services (OES). OES is a core group of multi-
disciplinary engineers in ONGC entrusted with the task of creation of new facilities at Offshore as
well as enhancement and revamp of existing facilities.

• OES not only creates new facilities but also take-up Finance -
revamping /up gradation of existing facilities to increase In Charge Finance
their lifespan.

Engineering Services (ED-COES)
ONGC follows functional departmentation at HR

Director (HR)

Handles human resources, labor relations, and skill


development, with a focus on:
• Corporate Medical, Legal, and Sports.
• ONGC Academy
• Skill Development Centres to train employees​

Director (T&FS)

Manages drilling and field services to maintain and increase well productivity.
Key departments:
• Drilling Services: Specialized in deep-water drilling and advanced
techniques for high-pressure environments​.
• Well Services, Workover, and Well Completion for enhancing oil and gas
recovery.
• Project ICE, Info-com, and IDT oversee technical innovations and digital
services.

The director performs these tasks with the help of drilling managers, drilling
engineers, rig supervisors, mud engineers, etc.
ONGC follows functional departmentation at Finance

Director (Finance)

Ensures sound financial management across all assets,


covering:
• Corporate Accounts, Treasury, and Risk Management.
• Internal Audit, Direct Taxes, Indirect Taxes, and
Commercial divisions ensure regulatory compliance.
