TECHNICAL DATA SHEET
DOP (DIOCTYL PHTHALATE)
DOP Plasticizer (Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) Phthalate) is a light colored, low volatility, odorless liquid.
It is the most widely used all-purpose plasticizer offered by Plastay for use with polyvinyl
chloride (PVC) resins. It is insoluble in water and has a viscosity of about 78 cP at 20°C. DOP
features good stability to heat and ultraviolet light, a broad range of compatibility, and excellent
      resistance to hydrolysis.

Description:
DOP is still widely used as a plasticizer in selected applications where volatiles are less of an
issue. It is also used as a hydraulic fluid and as a dielectric fluid in capacitors. DOP was the
most widely used material as a plasticizer in manufacturing of articles made of PVC. Due to
toxicity reasons, its usage has dropped and has been replaced by lower volatile phthalate and
phthalate free products in some PVC and other applications
Applications:
DOP generally used with materials like P.V.C in order to plasticise, after being heated to a
doughy or plasticised state, to obtain elasticity, brightness for plastic material, generate
electrical resistance, to prevent cracking and make surface smooth. Some cyanoacrylate
adhesives are used to lengthen curing time in polyurathane systems, to ensure brightness,
smooth surfaces and relative flexibility and prevents materials which will be removed from
mould from adhering to it.
Safety:
DOP does not require special handling. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and
safety practices. Avoid eye contact by wearing personal protective equipment. If eye contact
occurs, wash with flowing water and contact physician. Avoid repeated or prolonged skin
contact. Avoid breathing vapors by providing adequate ventilation. Always refer to the Safety
Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed information on safety.
Storage and Handling:
DOP can be stored for two year at temperatures below 40°C, if moisture is excluded.
Packaging:
Material is available in IBCs and flexitanks. Further packaging options may be available upon
enquiry.
