CHAPTER ONE
1.0 Introduction
SIWES stand for Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme and was
established training fund (ITF) in 1973 so as to complement the knowledge
acquired in higher institution with practical experience. The Students
Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a skill acquisition training
designed to prepare and expose students of higher institution of learning for
industrial work they will eventually met after graduation. Prior to the
establishment of the scheme, there was a growing concern among our
industrialist that graduates of our institution of learning lacked adequate
practical background preparatory for employment in the industries. It is
against the background that the rationale for initiating and designing the
scheme was hinged consequently, the scheme affords students opportunity
of finalizing and exposing themselves to the needed experience in handling
equipment and machinery that are usually not available in the institution.
The growing concern among our industrialist that graduates of our
institution of higher learning lacked adequate practical background studies
preparatory for o in industries led to the formation of students industrial
work experience scheme (SIWES) by ITF (Information and guideline for
SIWES 2002).
The goal of SIWES is to promote the industrialization in Nigeria and create
an avenue between world of teaching, learning industry and work with
reference to the field of study, the scheme is therefore a skill training
orientation programme so as to expose students on work they would meet
after graduation.

CHAPTER THREE
3.0 My Assignment Carried Out During My Industrial training
I learnt how to type company’s proposal letter.
I went on a marking field to distribute bills to the public, by creating
awareness about the company.
I was taught on how to type security form and how the format looks like.
I went to a conference meeting where I arrange the conference room for the

3.1 Problems And Challenges
Problem and challenges encountered during my industrial
training are:
1. High cost of transportation on daily basis
2. Lack of allowance to support and enable me transport
myself to the office.
3. Inadequate materials in the place of I.T.
4. Too many studentss in the same place which hinders individual work.
11
3.2 Prospects
1. The government should make provision for monthly
allowance which will enable students on industrial
attachment move faster in time of transportation
2. Supervisors should ensure that students are punctual
and encouraged to their work well
3. Government should get to know the necessary
information about the organization whether students
are undergoing their training to ensure the equipment
are available and adequate
4. Supervisor in their own way should create time to sit
their students down and go through their log book.

4.1 Conclusion
Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) has
impacted more knowledge to me as a students studying
Public Administration Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 polytechnic,
Lafia. This program has also equipped me with working
experience as a students and to know the difference
between theory and practical.
Significantly, government of Nigeria should put more effort
and the (ITF) should keep it up for the students to improve
on their practical training and they should make sure that
the problem faced by participant such as lack of
transportation, nonpayment of allowance by the
organization, paper management of SIWES log book should
be arranged in other to enable the students run the scheme
smoothly and successfully without stress.

4.2 Recommendation
I wish to commend the Industrial Training (ITF) for the effort
towards the students Industrial Work Experience Scheme
(SIWES) because this program has contributed much to us as
students and also give us experience practically.
1. The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) should try and visit
various place of attachment in other to ascertain that the
organization have enough facilities needed to expose the
students.
2. Government should create awareness programs for the
establishment to accept students on attachment
3. Also school Authority should provide enough fund for the
supervisors
4. The organization should provide stand-by electricity for stable and
effective activity.
5. The organization should provide the public awareness for private
companies in order to extend their service.
