taken into account as the area was censused for the first time in 1951 and the same are not comparable.

Dausa district vide Govt. Notification No. F.9 (8)/Rev/Group-1/91-1 dated 31.3.91 and F.9 (20)/Rev/Group-1/91 dated 14.8.92 .
(c ) Entire four tahsils namely Dausa, Baswa, Lalsot and Sikrai of previously part of Jaipur district with an area of 2917.06 sq. kms.
and population of 834,656 were transferred to newly formed Dausa district vide Govt Notification No.F.9 (8)/Rev/Group-1/91-1
dated 31.3.91.
(d) Entire Seven tahsils namely Rajsamand, Kumbhalgarh, Amet, Nathdwara, Railmagra, Bhim and Deogarh with an area of 4689.47 sq. kms. and
population of 822,721 were transferred to newly formed Rajsamand district vide Govt .Notification No.F-9 (8)/Rev/ Group-1/91-III dated 31.3.91.
(e) Entire Seven tahsils namely Baran, Mangrol, Chhabra, Atru, Chhipabarod, Shahbad and Kishanganj with an area of 7010.98 sq. kms. and
population of 810,326 were transferred to newly formed Baran district vide Govt. Notification No.F.9 (1)/Rev/Group-1/91-II dated 31.3.91.

population of 1,030,399 were transferred to newly formed Baghpat district vide Notification No. 2779/1-5/97-R-5 dated 15.09.1997.
(c) Entire Dadri tahsil (excluding 5 villages, merged in Ghaziabad M. Corp.) and 6 villages of Hapur tahsil vide Notification No. 2654/1-
5/97-312/97-R-5 dated 06.09.1997 with an area of 643.32 sq.kms. and population of 468,258 were transferred to newly formed

(g) 7 villages of Karhal tahsil with an area of 13.74 sq.kms. and population of 5,720 were transferred to Etawah district vide letter No.

(a) (i) West Dinajpur district of 1991 Census was abolished and bifurcated into two districts namely Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur
on 1st April 1992. Out of seventeen Police Stations nine Police Stations namely Itahar, Hemtabad,Kaliaganj, Islampur, Chakulia,
Karandighi, Raiganj, Chopra and Goalpokhar with an area of 3165.40 sq. kms.and population of 1,926,729 were included in Uttar
Dinajpur district while eight Police Stations namely Balurghat, Hilli, Kumarganj, Tapan, Gangarampur, Banshihari, Harirampur and
Kushmandi with an area of 2174.80 sq. kms. and population of 1,200,924 in Dakshin Dinajpur district vide Notification No.
177-LR/6M-7/92 Calcutta, dated the 28th February, 1992.
(ii) 10 Mouzas (JL-No-43-52) with an area of 13.67 sq. kms. and population of 5,994 of Harirampur Police Station were transferred
to Uttar Dinajpur district vide Notification No. 239 L.R. dated 18th March, 1993.
(iii) 45 Mouzas (JL-No.-88-104, 107, 176-200, 202 and 248) with an area of 76.76 sq. kms. and population of 35,678 of Itahar Police
Station were transferred to Dakshin Dinajpur district vide Notification No. 239 L.R. dated 18th March, 1993.
(iv) Male and Female break up of 1951 census population of 10 Mouzas of Harirampur Police Station transferred to Uttar Dinajpur
district and 45 Mouzas of Itahar Police Station transferred to Dakshin Dinajpur district is recasted on the basis of Sex Ratio
of the respective Police Stations. As male and female break up for 1951 census is not available in District Census Handbook
of West Dinajpur.

(f ) Entire Parlakhemundi sub-division excluding sixty villages with an area 2983.90 sq.kms. and population of 454,708 was transferred
to newly formed Gajapati district vide Govt. notification No. DRC-36/92-49137/R dated 01-10-92. and DRC -36/92-49131/R
dated 01-10-92.
( g) Baudh sub-division with an area 3444.82 sq. kms.and population of 317,622 was transferred to newly formed Baudh district
vide notification No. DRC – 218/93-56413/R dated 22-12-93.
(h) Entire two sub-divisions namely Sonapur and Biramaharajpur with an area 2284.40 sq. kms. and population of 476,815 were
transferred to newly formed Sonapur district vide notification No.DRC-44/93-14218/R dated 27-03-93.
(i ) Entire Nuapada sub-division with an area 3398.13 sq. kms.and population of 469,482 was transferred to newly formed Nuapada
district vide notification No. DRC-44/93-14218/R dated 27-03-93.
(j) ( i) Entire Malkangiri sub-division and two villages from Jeypur sub-division with an area 6120.75 sq. kms.and population of 422,326
were transferred to newly formed Malkangiri district vide notification No. DRC-36/92-49137/R dated 01-10-92 and DRC-36/92-
49131/R dated 01-10-92.
(ii) Entire Nabarangapur sub-division and 40 villages of Kotpad P.S. with an area 5290.99 sq. kms.and population of 846,659 were
transferred to newly formed Nabarangapur district vide notification No. DRC-36/92-49137/R dated 01-10-92 and DRC-36/92-
49131/R dated 01-10-92.
(iii) Entire two sub-divisions namely Rayagada and Gunupur with an area 7584.65 sq. kms. and population of 713,984 were transferred

(g) Entire three taluks of Dohad, Limkheda and Jhalod and 86 villages of Devgadbaria and 96 villages of Santrampur taluk with an
area of 3645.12 sq. kms. and population of 1,274,123 were transferred to newly formed Dohad district vide Govt. Notification No.
GHM-97-91-M-PFR-1097-L dated 27.9.1997 and No.GHM-97-120-M-PFR-2397-2593-L dated 15.10.1997 respectively.
(h) Entire Tilakwada taluk with an area of 244.42 sq. kms. and population of 51,483 was transferred to newly formed Narmada district
vide Govt. Notification No.GHM-97-81-M-PFR-1097-L dated 24.9.1997.
(i) Entire three taluks namely Nandod, Dediapada and Sagbara with an area of 2510.94 sq. kms. and population of 397,893 were
transferred to newly formed Narmada district vide Govt. Notification No.GHM-97-81-M-PFR-1097-L dated 24.9.1997.

(c) (i) Entire five tahsils namely Tirora, Gondiya, Amgaon, Goregaon and Salekasa with an area of 2982.94 sq. kms.and population of
798,720 were transferred to newly formed Gondiya district vide Maharashtra Govt. Notification No. REN-5099/CR-6/M-10
dated 24th April 1999.
(ii) Entire Arjuni tahsil and Morgaon tahsil (excluding 43 villages) with an area of 1165.55 sq. kms. And population of 133,665 was
transferred to newly formed Gondiya district vide Maharashtra Govt. Notification No. REN-5099/CR-6/M-10 dated 24th April
1999 and REN/5099/CR.76/M-10 dated 23rd June 1999.
(iii) Deori tahsil (excluding 2 villages) with an area of 1301.47 sq. kms. and population of 153,836 was transferred to newly formed
Gondiya district vide Maharashtra Govt. Notification No. REN- 5099/CR-6/M-10 dated 24th April 1999 and REN/5099/CR.76/M-
10 dated 23rd June 1999.
(d) (i) Entire two tahsils namely Hingoli, Kalamnuri and Basmath tahsil (excluding 31 villages) with an area of 4319.05 sq. kms. and
population of 793,229 were transferred to newly formed Hingoli district vide Maharashtra Govt. Notification No. REN-4097/367/
CR-71/M-10 dated 24th April 1999.
(ii) 27 villages of Jintur tahsil with an area of 162.02 sq. kms.and population of 21,355 were transferred to Aundha (Nagnath) tahsil
of newly formed Hingoli district vide Maharashtra Govt. Notification No. REN/2392/CR-111/M-10 dated 13th August 1992.
(iii) 15 villages of Jintur tahsil with an area of 100.80 sq. kms.and population of 9,347 were transferred to Sengaon tahsil of newly
formed Hingoli district vide Maharashtra Govt. Notification No. REN-2392/CR-111/M-10 dated 13th August 1992.
(e) Greater Bombay district of 1991 Census has been abolished and bifercated into two districts namely Mumbai and Mumbai Suburban.
Entire Mumbai (Suburban) with an area of 446.00 sq. kms. and population of 6,751,002 was transferred to newly formed Mumbai
(Suburban) district remaining portion of Greater Bombay district with an area of 157.00 sq. kms. and population of 3,174,889
renamed as Mumbai district vide Maharashtra Govt. Notification No. TLC-2195/CR-804/M-10 dated 28th July 1995.

(ii) Entire seven taluks namely Shiggaon, Savanur, Hanagal, Haveri, Byadgi, Hirekerur and Ranibennur with an area of 4851.26 sq.
kms. and population of 1,269,213 were transferred to newly formed Haveri district vide Govt. of Karnataka Notification NO.RD
42 LRD 87(P-III) dated 2.08.1997.
(d) Entire Harpanahalli taluk with an area of 1437.69 sq. kms. and population of 234,092 was transferred to newly formed Davanagere
district vide Govt. of Karnataka Notification No. RD 42 LRD 87(P-III) dated 2.08.1997.
(e) Entire three taluks namely Davanagere, Harihar and Jagalur with an area of 2405.75 sq. kms. and population of 867,726 were
transferred to newly formed Davanagere district vide Govt. of Karnataka Notification No. RD 42 LRD 87(P-III) dated 2.08.1997.
(f) Entire two taluks namely Honnali and Channagiri with an area of 2073.63 sq. kms. and population of 457,404 were transferred to
newly formed Davanagere district vide Govt. of Karnataka Notification No. RD 42 LRD 87(P-III) dated 2.08.1997.
(g) Entire two taluks namely Kundapur, Udupi and Karkal taluk (exluding 28 villages of Mudbidri firka and Mudbidri town) with an area
of 3557.75 sq. kms. and population of 1,038,099 were transferred to newly formed Udupi district vide Govt. of Karnataka
Notification No. RD 42 LRD 87(P-III) dated 2.08.1997.
(h) Entire four taluks namely Gudlupet, Chamarajanagar, Yelandur and Kollegal with an area of 5686.22 sq. kms. and population of
883,365 were transferred to newly formed Chamarajanagar district vide Govt. of Karnataka Notification NO. RD 42 LRD 87 (P-III)

dated 18.12.1992 and G.O.Ms.No.589 dated 30.6.1993.
(e) (i) Entire three taluks namely Kodavasal, Needamangalam and Mannargudi with an area of 1028.56 sq. kms. and population of
580,183 ; a portion of Nannilam taluk ( 72 villages with an area of 316.88 sq. kms. and population of 119,044) ;a portion of
Papanasam taluk ( 7 villages from Valangaiman CD Block with an area of 16.86 sq. kms. and population of 9,430); a portion of

(ii) Entire five taluks namely Sirkali, Tharangambadi, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Vedaranyam with an area of 2031.32 sq.
kms. and population of 1,201,512; a portion of Trituthuraipoondi taluk (15 villages from Thalanayar CD Blocks with an area of
54.71 sq. kms. and population of 22,997); a portion of Nannilam taluk (entire Thirumarugal CD Blocks with an area of 183.45 sq.
kms. and population of 85,357), and portion of Thiruvarur taluk (entire Kilvelur CD Block with an area of 147.25 sq. kms. and
population of 67,735) were transferred to newly formed Nagapattinam district vide G.O.Ms.No. 681 dated 25.7.1996.
(f) Entire three taluks namely Periyakulam, Uthamapalayam and Andipatti with an area of 3187.19 sq. kms. and population of
1,049,323 were transferred to newly formed Theni district vide G.O.Ms.No.679 dated 25.7.1996.
(g) 24 villages with an area of 57.06 sq. kms. and population of 24,887 were transferred to Shivganga district vide G.O.Ms.No.698
dated 21.8.1998.

(ii) 350 villages of Bahraich tahsil and (one town Lkauna) with an area of 860.39 sq.kms. and population of 467,448 were tra
to newly formed Shrawasti district vide Notification No. 2350 (1)/1-5-97-154-97-R-5 dated 13.08.1997.
(r) Entire three tahsils namely Balrampur, Tulsipur and Utraula with an area of 2926.54 sq.kms. and population of 1,368,
transferred to newly formed Balrampur district vide Notification No. 1428/1-5/97-172/85-R-5 dated 25.05.1997.
(s) 161 villages of Bansi tahsil with an area of 129.71 sq.kms. and population of 99,921 were transferred to newly formed San
Nagar district vide Notification No. 2779/1-5-97-287/97-R-5 dated 12.09.1997.
(t) Entire Khalilabad tahsil and 131 villages of Basti tahsil with an area of 1510.82 sq.kms. and population of 1,052,1
transferred to newly formed Sant Kabir Nagar district vide Notification No. 2649/1-5/97-309/97-R-5 dated 05.09.1997.
(u) Entire three tahsils namely Padrauna, Hata and Tamkuhi Raj and 14 villages of Deoria tahsil with an area of 2884.08 sq.km
population of 2,256,334 were transferred to newly formed Kushinagar district vide Notification No. 5-4 (1) 88-277dated
1994 and 3020/1-5/98-M.R-74/97-R-5 dated 15.02.1999.
(v) 26 villages of Burhanpur tahsil with an area of 24.17sq.kms.and population of 25,262 were transferred to newly formed Am
Nagar district vide Notification No. 2674/1-5-97-208/81-R-5 dated 06.09.1997.
(w) (i) Entire three tahsils namely Sakaldiha, Chakia and Chandauli (except 2 villages) with an area of 1912.59 sq. kms. and po
of 1,274,839 were transferred to newly formed Chandauli district vide Notification No. 1436/1-5/97-102/97-R-5 dated 25.05
(ii) Entire two tahsils namely Bhadohi and Gyanpur with area of 1042.84 sq.kms. and population of 1,077,633 were trans
newly formed Sant Ravidas Nagar district vide Notification No.5-4 (1)/78-338-R-5 dated 30.06.1994.
