REMAND HOME

Definition :-
This term is used to refer to the sending back of the accused or
prisoner to the custody of a competent authority.

Purpose:-

 The propose of remand is to facilitate completion of investigation


and to collect evidence.
 For the protection of victim.

Some other things to know about remand homes include:

 Children between the ages of 8 and 16 are often sent to remand


homes for up to one month.
 Juveniles charged with serious crimes like murder, may be
transferred to a special remand home where they can be kept for up
to three years.
 The Ministry of Women and Child Development provides financial
assistance to state governments to set up and maintain remand
homes.
 The rules for remand homes include standard for clothing, bedding,
nutrition, physical infrastructure and rehabilitation measure.

Services :

Remind homes are places that provide short term care for children
while they wait for their cases to be heard in court. They offer a range of
services, including:

 Shelter : Remind homes provide a safe and stable place to stay.

 Observation : Remind homes observe children and their families to


develop safety plans and assistance.
 Education : Remand homes may offer literacy and ongoing studies.

 Vocational training : Remand homes may offer vocational training.

 Health : Remand homes may provide health services.

 Sanitation : Remand homes may provide sanitation and hygiene


living conditions.
