TUTOR ASSISTANT - ADVERTISEMENT

2024 PART TIME STUDENT POSITIONS AVAILABLE


FACULTY: ENGINEERING & THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT
DEPARTMENT: INDUSTRIAL & SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
POSITION: TUTOR (10-month contract)
REMUNERATION (per month):
• R 50 per hour (max. 40 hours per month) diploma & advanced diploma students
• R 60 per hr. (max. 40 hrs. per month) honours / post-graduate diploma students
• R 80 per hr. (max. 40 hrs. per month) masters’ degree students
• R 100 per hr. (max. 40 hrs. per month) doctoral degree students

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Must be a registered student
• For undergraduates (diploma, advanced diploma, or postgraduate students) must
have a qualification higher than the position applied for, diploma or be at an
academic level higher than the position applied for (i.e., 2nd year level of study).
• Applicants must be academically competent (consistent pass in all subjects with
average of 60%).
• Trained as a tutor assistant (two-day training workshop will be provided)
• Applicants must feel comfortable working in a team
• Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (computer literacy)
• Experience in working with students in an academic environment
• Applicant must have the time to:
▪ Conduct, two 60-minute tutor sessions per week – not more than 5 hours / week
▪ Attend regular planning meetings with supervising lecturer
▪ Attend regular monthly meetings with tutor teams

JOB DESCRIPTION
Assist and support students and lecturer. The tutor will work under the guidance of a
lecturer / senior lecturer to help and support the lecturer in conducting class tutorial
sessions. The tutor will facilitate tutorial classes where required. He or she will assist
his or her student peers under the direction of their lecturers on challenges students
face in class through structured class tutorial sessions.
