Support for Learner’s Participation

Summary

One of the challenges that most of the teacher’s encounter is inspiring

learner’s to be involved in class discussions and class activities. Thus, one
must be guided with the various ways of improving student participation in
both class discussions and activities. When learners are given the
opportunity to share what they know and show what they can do, as well as
recognized their efforts, then they will realize that their contributions matter.

Teachers must consider the condition of the learning environment if this is

conducive to participation. Make sure that the physical set up bring about
easy communication between the learners and the teacher and with their
classmates as well. A teacher should explore varied ways of arranging the
classroom layout which allow learners to face also their classmates and not
only the teacher. Also, in order for learners to have more opportunities to
interact with the teacher and with one another, the teacher should move
around the room. This will provide learners opportunity to ask and even
converse with each other instead of constantly addressing their questions
and answers to the teacher because he or she is located in front of the
room (Hollander, 2002).

The teacher should also explore different teaching strategies encourage

active involvement of learners. Make sure that learners can respond or
discuss when the concept is introduced. Engage the learners in other non-
threatening activities involving small groups, pairs, or trials so that those
with less confidence to talk in front of the class are encouraged to
participate. The teacher must also exert an effort in knowing his/her
students not just by name, but by heart. Connect with them, establish
mental, social and emotional rapport but acknowledge limitations so that it
is balanced.
Re-orientation of Code of Ethics

Summary

The re-orientation of the code of ethics for professional teachers is an

important process that ensures the ethical conduct and professionalism of
educators. By reviewing and updating the code, educational institutions can
address emerging ethical issues. They can adapt to changes in educational
policies and practices, and promote the well – being and development of
students.

The involvement of various stakeholders, including teachers, educators,

administrators, parents, and students, in their reorientation process is
crucial. This ensures that the revised code reflects the needs and
expectations of the education community. By seeking input and feedback
from these stakeholders, educational institutions can create a code of
ethics that is comprehensive, relevant, and practical.

The re-orientation process involves identifying the key principles and

values that should guide the professional conduct of teachers.
This includes principles such as integrity, respect, professionalism,
confidentiality, fairness, and continuous professional development.
These principles serve as a foundation for teachers’ actions and decisions,
helping them navigate ethical dilemmas and maintain high standards of
professionalism. It encourages teachers to strive to be their best selves,
continuously improving their practice for the betterment of students and
society.
Six Types of Assessment of Learning

Summary

Assessment of learning is a crucial component of the educational process

as it is allowing educators to measure students’ knowledge, skills, and
understanding. The six common types of assessment mentioned provide a
comprehensive approach to evaluating student learning outcomes.
Summative assessments provide a snapshots of students’ overall
understanding and mastery of the content. They are valuable in
determining the effectiveness of instruction and identifying areas for
improvement. However, it is important to note that relying solely on
summative assessments may not capture the full range of student’s
abilities and growth.

Formative assessments, on the other hand of ongoing feedback and allow

teachers to monitor student progress throughout the learning process. By
providing timely feedback, teachers can make necessary adjustments to
their instruction and provide additional support to students who may be
struggling. Formative assessments promote a continuous cycle of learning
and improvement.

Performance assessments are particularly effective in assessing students’

ability to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world contexts. These
assessments provide students with opportunities to showcase their
understanding through hands-on tasks or projects. Performance
assessments encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity,
which are essential skills for success in various domains.
Diagnostic assessments are valuable in identifying students’ strengths,
weaknesses, and prior knowledge before instruction begins. By
understanding students’ starting points, teachers can tailor their instruction
to meet individual needs and provide appropriate support. Diagnostic
assessments help create a personalized learning experience for students.

Authentic assessments go beyond traditional tests and encourage students

to apply their knowledge and skills in meaningful and real-world contexts.
These assessments promote higher-order thinking, collaboration, and
creativity. While, Self-assessment is a powerful tool that promotes
metacognition and student ownership of learning. By reflecting on their own
progress and performance, students develop a deeper understanding of,
their strengths and areas for improvement. Self-assessment encourages
students to set goals, monitor their progress, and take responsibility for
their learning.

In conclusion, a balanced approach to assessment that incorporates a

variety of assessment types can provide a comprehensive understanding of
students’ learning outcomes. By using a combination of summative,
formative, performance, diagnostic, authentic, and self-assessment
methods, educators can gain valuable insights into students’ progress,
tailor instruction to meet individual needs, and foster a culture of continuous
improvement.
