USHA
Must be a woman
(married/widow/divorced)resident of the same
area
Preferred age group 25-45 years
Should have had the formal education upto 8th
standard
Should have good communication skills

Should have leadership qualities
One USHA for every 1000-2500 population
A team of five facilitators may be identified
in each PUHC catchment area with the help
of an NGO, through a consultative process,
for facilitating the selection of the USHA

Actively promoting good health practices
and enjoying community support
Facilitate awareness on essential RCH
services, sexuality, and gender equality,
age at marriage/pregnancy; motivation on
contraception adoption. medical
termination of pregnancy, sterilization,
spacing methods
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
OF USHA

USHA provides information on nutrition, hygiene,


basic sanitation, healthy living, effective
utilization of available health services, etc
She will act as a depot holder to community for
essentials and supplies like oral rehydration
therapy (ORS), iron folic acid (IFA) tablet,
chloroquine, disposable delivery kits (DDKs), oral
pills and condoms, etc
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitate access to health related services
available at the Anganwadi, Primary Urban
Health Centers/ULBs, and other services
being provided by the ULB/State/Central
Government.
Formation and promotion of Mahila Arogya
Samitis in her community
Carrying out preventive and promotive health
activities with ANM/Mahila Arogya Samiti

Arrange escort/accompany pregnant women and


children requiring treatment to the nearest
